ground-glass opacity in lungs
Wondering if all of you have the "ground-glass opacity" in your lungs & what you were told about it? My pulmonologist said it's viral pneumonia from covid & will do another CT scan in a few months to see if has changed it may become chronic.

Activity is key. First PFT post COVID showed decreased diffusion with normal volumes. I am very active caring for my horses and still working. This year PFT diffusion was improved 6 months after the first test. Also used a treadmill walking which helped me to ditch supplemental oxygen by April last year. I came home from the hospital on 6L beginning of February 2022.
My home is at 2600 ft above sea level; I took a European trip to Italy/Malta, all at sea level and it was great to be able to breathe again. My husband just bought an Inogen G5 portable concentrator and it is superb; we have two batteries. So easy to go and do. I think it weighs 8 lbs.
Hello it's been two years for me with ground glass but I'm able to get off my oxygen until I exercise, are do other activities then I need my oxygen. I thought I was all alone and I found this group I'm crying because someone understands what I'm going threw. My faith in God is very strong God bless you all for sharing and just being here!
I'm curious whether any of you who had ground glass opacities (likely resulting from COVID) have had follow-ups, and did your GGO resolve or is it persistent?
I was hospitalized for COVID in January 2022 at age 52, saw UT Southwestern Medical pulmonologist in summer 2023 and summer 2024. Nodules from scans in 2023 were gone but new ones were visible in the 2024 followup. Recent CT still shows GGO and possible bullous lung disease. I have a difficult time with deep breaths, and cannot pull much more than 2500 on a spirometer. I am in good shape physically, and do a lot of manual labor but very little formal exercise.
Just curious how some of the rest of your situations have been turning out. I don't like the continued GGO for all the reasons, not the least of which is lack of full, deep breaths without pain. Should I have different expectations?
@cbauter GGO are usually artifacts of a previous infection, and typically resolve over time, or form into scar tissue. The nodules, and being post-Covid each add another twist.
Since your are having scans done, are you seeing a pulmonologist? Bullous lung disease is a form of emphysema, and you need an expert to help you.

1 ReactionHi @cbauter. My healthcare system has a specialty panel that evaluates post covid patients with our GGO, nodule, varying lung issues each year to determine “stable” and feel no concern we still have them with related symptoms since evaluated. 🙃 Hopeful you have similar resource and quickest healing to you🌈
