Hot Tub or Whirlpool Tub. Can I use one? Into my 6th week from surgery

At the end of my 6 weeks following lumbar surgery. I feel good. Can I use a hot tub ? Certainly the surgical wound is healed and will not get infected.

That’s honestly a question for your surgeon. Surgical sites heal in different layers and yes a hot tub or whirlpool might find the weakest spot. Definitely ask your surgeon….David

My doctor asked me to wait 6 weeks after surgery to resume swimming, but I think that had more to do with post-op physical restrictions than any concern about whether or not I was waterproof.

Lol @ waterproof. No , other issues beyond skin would be what type of surgery as well. You wouldn’t want a jet of water hitting you if you just had a fusion etc..etc..Again get your surgeon to give you a thumbs up before you try the hot tub or whirlpool. It’s better to be safe….David

As I near the end of my 6th week of lumbar surgery recovery at home, not sure if the media file I added is cool but there it is. I am 70 years old but you most note that just about 12 months earlier at 69 years old I had 2 cervical surgeries 3 days apart (front and back). I feel good .. very axinous to get into physical therapy and I also want to boil in a jetted hot tub. The last 15 months of my life has been a spinal not so fun ride.

Has anyone had this surgery?
To stabilize the lumbar spine?

@newyorkcharlie, very happy to hear that you are feeling good. That was a lot of surgery. Hopefully you can "cook" in the jetted hot tub soon. Fran.

Glad your surgery was a success. If you’re still using pain meds don’t mix them with a hot tub. Happy soaking

WOW, yes I had completely overlooked that. Thanks for the reminder. Soaking in a cauldron of near-boiling water while taking most pain meds (if not all) is NOT a good idea.
