Is anyone unable to stand in one spot without getting exhausted?
Since post Covid, one of my horrible symptoms is I cannot stand in one place more than a minute (sometimes less-it varies on the day) without feeling EXTREME fatigue in my body/legs, short of breath, dizzy. It’s impossible for me to do without hurrying and laying or sitting down. Weird thing is that I can walk but as soon as I stop walking and am still in one spot, I feel like I’m dying.
Has anyone experienced this?

Hi @dh524. Just wanted to assure your on the right track with do very little, rest, and try to stop activity of any kind by mid afternoon to allow your body good catch up healing sleep. Im over a year long covid and still can only shower with standing to wash hair about twice a week and know the rest of those days will be resting to avoid PEM. PT and gradual walking with slight increased time each week will hopefully bring you slow and steady progress. Dont get discouraged if set backs and really listen to your body as it seems many of us have many everchanging symptoms that can be managed with changing our behaviors to maneuver. Best to you and everyone🌈
It sounds like a lot of people are experiencing the same horrible exhaustion, but has anyone found it impossible to just stand in one spot for anytime? I find as the day goes on and gets harder . Example: you might be able to walk to point A to point B but if you stop along the way, you can’t. Or once you get to point B, you can’t stay standing? I just find this really weird, for example I may be able to walk to the kitchen okay but if I open the refrigerator, I can’t stand there to find what I’m looking for. I can’t stand to cook, wash dishes, etc.
I have tried to explain this to doctors and they don’t understand and I feel like they’re brushing it off and it’s frustrating.
I hope this encourages you. I felt the same way for about 3 months after Covid. Absolutely lifeless to be honest! I had to make myself REST! Do a little something....then lie down. It is a different fatigue from anything I ever experienced. Mine got better. I believe REST is HEALING with Covid. God Bless!
MayoClinic therapist put me on this routine to help my fatigue :
Set a timer for 1hr. When it signals, you take a 5min "timeout"... go into a quiet place ((sometimes I go into the bathroom , close the door), close my eyes, clear thoughts. Then resume activity. Reset timer.
At midmorning, noon, mid-afternoon the timeout is 20min break. Sometimes I need to use eye mask and earplugs. Whatever works!!!
The brain craves rest. Needs it to regroup and heal the frenzied message system.
Try anything!!!
I have found that if I have a busy day I need to pace myself and relax at home the next day or two. If I sit down to read I usually end up napping. I was never a napped before having Covid. I couldn’t if I tried. Now, it just happens. I figure that my body must need it.
I have a lot more difficulty standing in one spot than walking short distances—it’s as if all the blood starts to leave my brain if I stand in one spot ! I start to get very faint.
Hi @mh10. Know the frustration and as one group member shared she is taken seriously because her doctor has long haul covid. I literally have stool at my stovetop as I never know if I need for quick tea kettle, dishes and find refrigerator can be worse if needing to stand and take out/put away and I try to never shower same day of grocery purchase🙃. Hang in there and just keep trying different things like gently rocking side to side to figure out how to prevent these daunting symptoms🌈
Yes, same! Does it also make you feel like your legs and your back are very heavy all of a sudden and are not going to support you standing?
Just the other day I was telling my husband I may have to bring up the small step ladder that we have to keep in the kitchen so I can sit on it if I need to cook some thing because right now I can’t even stand in one spot to fry up hamburger. 😩
I just start to feel like I’m about to pass out and have to sit down immediately or I’ll start throwing up also.
