Are long haulers more prone to long covid after another infection?

Posted by bmd @bmd, Mar 22, 2023

Is there any information about long haulers being more prone to long Covid after another Covid infection? Also, can a reinfection exacerbate prior long Covid symptoms? Thank you for any information you may have on the subject.

The information is very sketchy at this point in time…I think it’s going to be quite a while yet for the medical profession to gather more information about covid and all of the many symptoms it leaves some people with. I personally feel that due to this lack of information the doctor are at a loss as to what to give us. I recently spoke with my family doctor about my symptoms since I had covid and he said I’m putting too much onus on covid…I never had these symptoms before covid so what was I to think…the doctor is doing some routine tests to probably rule out other things. I did read something recently about this very dilemma regarding long covid and it’s definitely going to cause more changes in health care. I realize that every country has it’s own methods of doing things but at the end of the day they also share their findings with other countries and this can only be helpful for all of us no matter where we live, thank goodness for technology, amen.

They don't want to know about Long Covid. If these doctors were as inept as they pretend to be about long covid - they would have never gotten out of medical school. They have someone telling them to ignore long covid patients (lawyer, Insurance govt...) It's been 3 years and you can't tell me they don't have a protocol to identify the sickness - you know specific blood test? What to look for in stool samples, criteria for scans... How to track that spike protein they injected us with to confuse our immune system to fight Covid - is it lost in our bodies fighting what else other than covid? Trust me Long Covid is a human screw-up and the total disregard by the medical community is a disgrace at a minimum and criminal if it is a cover up as I expect.

I’m sorry if what I said earlier upset you, it’s not that I’m disregarding your personal opinion but if what you say is true we’re all doomed.. with all due respect I’ve read your comment several times and I don’t hear any proof of what you’re saying. It’s common knowledge that some people believe in conspiracy theories when there’s a major crisis but that’s what they are, theories. I’m not by any means an ostrich and I try to keep an open mind. It’s very enlightening to share our thoughts and feelings with each other in hope that we can benefit from doing this. I would be lying to you if I said I never had these thoughts myself and also having my share of frustration with my doctors, it wouldn’t be too hard for me to join you. I have to put some faith in the system and hope for the best…it’s just too much burden to carry these thoughts around and still hang on to my sanity…I wish the best for you and hope you will get better answer to your feelings, take care.

The truth is that there is a strong political element involved with the covid. Dr's have been penalized for giving their opinion, so they dare not give their opinion. That is the truth, trust me. Scary.

My experience has been, with all of the dozen or so doctors that I have seen in trying to get help for all of my symptoms (which have only finally been diagnosed as long covid by a rheumatologist), is that they don’t want to be problem solvers. They only want patients who have a neat and clean problems to fix, they don’t want to have to think outside of the box or expend the extra time and energy to help a patient figure something out. I also think some see it as a blow to their ego. It’s much easier, and likely more profitable, for them to prescribe meds instead and hope you go away. I have not been to Mayo Clinic, but this has been my experience with all of the doctors I’ve seen in WA State. I definitely think more research and studies are needed to understand how long covid and the vaccine are affecting people. However, I don’t think a more nefarious reason exists or is needed to explain why regular doctors don’t want to deal with long covid patients—we’re too much work.

That was certainly the case with my previous doctor. She didn't have any answers about Long COVID, so she told me they wouldn't know anything about it for a decade. Meanwhile, I was suffering from symptoms that were and continue to be debilitating. After 3 vaccinations for COVID-19, all 3 Moderna, I got even worse with Long COVID. My doctor's answer to that was that she didn't have TIME to see me and I should go to Urgent Care. Needless to say, she is no longer my doctor!
