Diet woes with Type 2 Diabetes. Too many conflicting diets.
Do i follow keto? There is just too many fad type of diets. I would like advice on what to eat. I have type 2 with a 6.7 a1c. About 165 lbs. Exercise 15 minutes walking/jogging 5 times a week. Trying to get it to 30 minutes. BTW i take 1000mg metformin 2x day and a shot of Trulicity once a week. Thanks in advance.

I'm 73 years old I have type 2 diabetes and neuropathy and leg nerve pain degenerative disc and I have to take gabapentin my wife had got diabetes for years she was on glucophage Metformin all kinds of different diets and she did buy her diet reverse her diabetes her last test A1C test was a 5.7 her doctors won't even give her test strips anymore they say that she's not a diabetic anymore so I do believe that some people can reverse it I haven't been able to yet the Mediterranean diet is is very good avocado is not a vegetable it's a fruit berries blueberries are all very good for diabetes I'd rather try taking them and instead of statins or any kind of Metformin or anything metformin I think added to or maybe even caused my leg nerve pain I'm not really sure every doctor that I've talked to out of the last several have told me that unhealthy fats and fast food is the worst thing that a diabetic can eat and I believe it
54 yr old male, T2 25 years. Got my a1c from 11 to 5.5 or so for many years with various low carb, high fat diets. I've noticed that in my 50s I'm finding it harder not to fall off my diet and my a1c is slipping (6.3).
My Doc wants me on Farxiga but I see connections between Keto on sglt2s and ketacidosis. Yikes. So I'm going to go back to the old ADA low fat, high carb, reduced calorie diet until I see how this drug affects my numbers. I'm so out of practice , looking at Mediterranean influenced diet
@dextolen Be careful with Farxiga as there are side effects associated with this drug for some. I am both a type 2 with CKD stage 3. I found additional kidney issues where my eGFR was heading to Stage 4 on 2 occasions with the diabetic dose of 5 MG. I stopped taking the drug and my kidney function (eGFR) improved.
I'm worried about the side effects but supposed benefits to kidney and heart are all I read. - I'm going to ask for bloodwork after 30 days
@dextolen It's the trend that matters most with Farxiga and similar drugs. Perhaps a better outcome would be testing monthly for 3 months or longer rather than one time. My endocrinologist swears by Farxiga, but my bloodwork every 6 weeks showed differently as it relates to kidney disease with very little effect to A1C. The diabetic dose is 5mg while the kidney dose is 10mg. I was taking 5mg. Make sure to have the lab check for creatinine levels and/or eGFR as well.
All that I've read from WebMD and Cleveland Clinic and mayo and some of the other Medical clinics and diet experts speak highly of the Mediterranean and I think that eating a lot of fruits and vegetables and the portioning fish chicken salmon all this types of things are good for you you like they say you can eat pretty much anything if you eat it in moderation and and Portion it right and my doctor keeps saying that 6.4 is under control and he doesn't even really want me to test
