Multiple Stress Fractures while on meds for Essential Thrombocytosis

Posted by milkweed @milkweed, Mar 19, 2023

Two years ago I suffered a stress fracture of the tibia plateau while riding my bike through sand, since then I have 4 other stress fx in my lower left leg and now one in the navicular on my right. I've been in boots, off loading braces on and off since for most of the duration. I have not been able to return to my exercise routine. My dexa scan diagnosis -2.5 osteopenia but because of hip implants only my back and forearm can be scanned. I have osteopenia in my lower leg and feet as seen on x-ray. I have just had my first shot of Prolia. Has anyone else in the group had stress fractures since being put on chemo drugs for ET (essential thrombocytosis, PV, or any other myeloproliferative disorder) ? The drugs include: hydroxyurea, anagrelide, interferon, jakifi. All but Jakafi have been short duration due to severe reactions. What has been your experience with Prolia?

Hear a link from Mayo https://www.mayoclinic.org/drugs-supplements/abaloparatide-subcutaneous-route/description/drg-20406221 Why this one and not Prolia? Or an anabolic. Mayo gives scientific explanations making it easy to goodie the options and count on the response Go for it

@milkweed, I added this discussion to the Blood Cancer & Disorders support group as well to hear from others who are being treated for essential thrombocytosis and may also experience osteoporosis.
