Pain lower right rib and cough after robotic lung surgery

Posted by mike1941 @mike1941, Mar 6, 2022

Nerve, muscle and lower right rib pain 10 months after robotic lung surgery to remove upper lobe. Also continue to cough up green- yellow mucus blob after being given antibiotic for staph infection- photo attached. Would deeply appreciate any thoughts -suggestions … have seen pulmonologist etc. told to continue inhaler and breathing exercises. No relief to pain or concern

Hi @richardjos, I hope you saw the helpful reply from @felix536.

Did you consult with your surgeon about the ongoing swelling and pain? Does the swelling come and go?

The swelling seems to stay the same, the pain comes and goes , mostly comes , I spoke to the dr from what they say , it’s all normal and can be this way for up to three months, I just hit the two month mark , so I guess all is normal, I did finally get my results back on the cancer itself, it’s low risk no chemo needed so that was great news! Thank you for your response

I am in severe pain in right rib cage, can’t hardly eat nor sleep. I had upper right lobe removed by robotic surgery 3 months ago and the pain is still horrible, the front, side and back has throbbing pain with random sharp stabs. Has anyone experienced this? Thank you

Hello @judyfinch,
Here's a link to a more recent/active discussion that focuses on post-surgical pain that may be helpful.

Have you had a recent scan? Some members have noted broken ribs that may not have been detected right away. Did you have radiation?

@lls8000 yes I’ve had several scans, no broken ribs they say. No I didn’t have radiation. I had surgery June 8th and still in quite a bit of pain, I am now taking Gabapentin 300mg, it’s helping somewhat. Thank you for replying
