What helps to relieve pain in my butt?

Posted by ofemipupo @ofemipupo, Dec 28, 2021

I have been having pain in my butt when I sit and sometimes getting up from a sitting position is stressful. Sometimes pressing on the tail end of my spine/butt is painful. OIA

It feels like I’m sitting and lying on a pile of rocks. Ortho told me I have a pinched nerve in L4. It’s affected my left leg with knife like pains and extreme tightness that hasn’t gone away in months. I get a little relief from Extra Strength Excedrin
Has anyone tried acupuncture for nerve pain?????????

I have similar pain without the “rocks” feeling just tight quads. I have been doing pt with message, heat & stim. Then go to aqua therapy 2x week. this has alleviated the tightness. Take gabapentin 2
at night with sleep3 otc and it helps. Sorry 😣

I also have issues in my lumbar area, including bulging disc toward the center of my spine and stenosis. I also have a condition called DISH. When I was having an MRI for GYN issue they noticed that I had bilateral gluteal tendon tears. So they said they couldn’t do anything about it. I said well I read that physical therapy can sometimes help. And sometimes stretching. So I went to physical therapy and started with land therapy, but ended up in the water with aqua therapy. I’m done with physical therapy now, but I still do my stretches in the water at the local Y. I too have the pain that goes into my hip and sometimes runs down the front of my leg. I have gotten injections in the lumbar spine and SI joint as well. I also take 1000 mg of Tylenol twice a day, and when it gets really bad, I take ibuprofen. Ibuprofen can do a number on me otherwise but when the pain is really bad I need to take some thing.
I hope that this helps you. I wish you the best luck feeling better..

Hi, thank you for your response. I’ve had an epidural and cortisone injection in the spine and neither helped me. I used to do lap swimming a few times a week, but I am not able to do that now. My leg feels like a 50 lb weight is attached to it and have limited mobility in that leg caused by a pinched nerve in my L4
caused by a PT that worked me too hard.
It feels like a very tight thick rope is binding my leg.
I cannot lift it to put socks on
and can barely put my slacks on. I’ve tried acupuncture twice... didn’t help.
I’m skeptical about surgery.
I know people that have had spine surgery and they felt worse after.
I hope what you’re doing continues to help for you.

Sounds like you might have a tight piriformis muscle that is putting pressure on your sciatic nerve. You may need physical therapy or Google piriformis exercises. ☮️

I was on Mayo connect in February. I had surgery in January for l5/s1 lateral herniated disk and a laminectomy. All went well. Now I have Piriformis pain really bad. Actually I’ve had this for about 3 years then the pain took over from the herniated disk which caused severe sciatic pain. I’ve read a lot online on what not to do and exercises to do. There are 4 simple exercises I can do on my back. I have a couple good hours but pain rarely goes away. Not sure how to resolve. I won’t take pain medicine. Tried ice - no help. We found a video on massage and my husband tries to copy. It does help for a little while but won’t go away! Any ideas?

I would recommend engaging an experienced PT or myofascial specialist. ☮️

Pelvic pt and a myofascial specialist are great ideas…

I have a terrible, inoperable spine in all ways. Having nerve ablation in a month. Hoping that will help with pain, not permanent, but will take anything I can get and repeat when necessary.

As to butt pain, I have had that misery for 4-5 years and FINALLY got a diagnosis-ischial bursitis by my orthopedist; never thought to ask him about this pain. Maybe caused by too much pt for spine?

Pelvic pt person wrote down all places that hurt in my butt, and orthopedist knew right where to start looking with this information.

Also having an MRI this month to see if I have any tears in my hamstring.

Don’t quit until you can find something that helps!

Ps…forgot to mention that I also had nasty piriformis pain for years, (everything is all connected,) pelvic physical therapy finally has alleviated that. Be prepared for some interesting treatment and home work…

I had my SI joints injected and felt immediate relief

Wow, Bazzinga. Your description sounds exactly what I am experiencing. My Primary doctor took xrays of my spine and told me I have arthritis and my sciatic nerves (2) are pinched. I went to two months of PT two and three times a week and that only changed the pain and I think might have made it worse. I'm running out of options and leery of getting the operation, seems it doesn't work many times.

Have you had any breakthroughs?

Sorry for the late reply, Ive been busy trying to figure out how to get some relief from this miserable pain. Done all you mentioned with plenty other 'remedies' with little to no results. I had an MRI taken and made an appointment with a surgeon to get an opinion to determine if it is right for me. I don't hear much success with this malady, just praying something will work.
