Living with Neuropathy - Welcome to the group

Welcome to the Neuropathy group.
This is a welcoming, safe place where you can meet other people who are dealing with neuropathy. Let’s learn from each other and share stories about living well with neuropathy, coping with the challenges and offering tips.

I’m Colleen, and I’m the moderator of this group, and Community Director of Connect. Chances are you’ll to be greeted by volunteer patient Mentor John (@johnbishop) and fellow members when you post to this group. Learn more about Moderators and Mentors on Connect.

We look forward to welcoming you and introducing you to other members. Feel free to browse the topics or start a new one.
Let’s chat. Why not start by introducing yourself? What concerns would you like to talk about?

Happy Friday everyone! I just wanted to share our latest Member Spotlight for one of our neuropathy group members. I hope you like learning a little more about one of your fellow Connect members as much as I do.

Whenever I get in a swimming pool and move around much I noticed that my feet are much more tingly for the rest of the day. I am wondering if this is a good thing, or a bad thing? Does the pressure of the water stimulate nerves in the way that slows the progression of neuropathy, or does it have no positive effects and makes it harder to sleep in the evening because my feet are so much more tingly?

Hello @sarahfloranne, Welcome to Connect. I saw your recent post in the Connect Spotlight for @jenatsky here https://connect.mayoclinic.org/comment/826154/ and thought I would respond in this discussion so that you can connect with other members with joint replacements and neuropathy like @artscaping, myself and others. If you click the link below it will take you to the beginning of the discussion where you can learn what others have shared.

I thought you might also find the following information on Living Well with neuropathy on the Foundation for Peripheral Neuropathy's website - https://www.foundationforpn.org/living-well/.

I too have tripped in the past but am fortunate that I have not broken any bones. I am much more careful walking now and trying to be more conscious of existing hazards that may cause me to trip. Do you do any exercises to help with your balance and walking?

Last year I had 10 IVIG treatments for autoimmune encephalopogy (SP?), a brain inflamation.

Each treatment was charged to my insurance at $17,000, luckily not my out of pocket expense!
They seemed to work, as I no longer take them, but then I could no longer afford the high cost

Just found out about this group. I have Charcot-Marie-Tooth and would love to compare notes if anyone else has this condition. Mine is Late Onset Type 2. Thanks much.
