High blood cholesterol while on the big 3

Posted by sue102 @sue102, Mar 5, 2023

Has anyone while on the big 3 had an increase in blood cholesterol? If so what medications to lower cholesterol were prescribed other than statin? The big 3 double the toxicity of statin. Hence, my GP was hesitant to prescribe it and referred me to a cardiologist.

Yes mine is higher, I'm on the "Big 3" and have for a long time now been taking Ezitibime for my cholesterol as i cant tolerate statins. Ididn't know about increased toxicity of statins, thank you.

I must also add though that I increased the fat intake in my diet to gain weight, since my elevated cholesterol reading, I have cut back slightly, but I'm juggling with keeping some weight on!

Suethenany, you got a point there. We have to find a happy balance between all these things. Need the weight to fight the infection, but cannot afford to have high blood cholesterol.
Actually, I saw a cardiologist today who put me on 2 medications to lower cholesterol, Rosuvastatin 20 mg and Ezetimibe 10mg. Let’s hope they do their job without elevating liver enzymes and without muscle pain. My liver enzymes need to be watched closely from now until I finish MAC treatment.
I would really appreciate anyone’s input regarding these medications while on the big 3.
Thank you.

I discovered that my LDL had risen after taking the big 3. After completing the course of meds I persuaded my GP to let me try diet to reduce it. Ate oatmeal for breakfast and cut out fried foods and most sweets. Happy to say I brought it back down to good levels. Like you I did want to add statins to the mix. Best wishes!

Never though that my higher cholesterol was related to taking the Big 3. I am a vegan, so my bad cholesterol is usually quite low (in the 50s). I thought it was related to me eating far too much cake lately (after MAC diagnosis I thought I was dying soon so I allowed myself to eat all the cake I wanted).
