SIBO and Rapid Gastric Emptying or Dumping Syndrome
Does anyone els have these 2 diagnoses together?
I read more about gastropheris accompanied with SIBO.
I am 9 months into this sickness triggered by food /water poisoning in Mexico. I have done 4 rounds of antibiotics and am finally seeing a GI motility specialist, and also looking at Mayo if she cannot help me.
Anyone with similar diagnoses with advice on what has helped them. I have lost 70 pounds, constant nausea even with Zofran, dizziness and sugar drops after eating, constipation and just feel terrible.
Thanks in advance for any suggestions!

This is 2 years later. Hope your symptoms resolved.. I just started having them myself 2 months ago... sporadic at first and now more frequent... stool test tomorrow. Fingers crossed! So much runs through your mind with this! Thanks for the informative posts.
I've always heard that the pink stuff (pepto bismol) kills h. pylori... not sure it is true.
@dheavner I am having these issues myself! Just started 2 months ago... I've been scouring the internet trying to find information.. went to an allergist and all was negative. I do have a stool test scheduled so maybe this is it!! I hope you issues resolved as this was 2 years ago. Thanks for the information in this post. It helped me.
I have had my bowel issues since April 2022 and even spent 6 days in the hospital having all kind of tests but they said everything was in the normal range. None of the doctors can find what is wrong and yet I still have diarrhea and pain in the lower intestines. It's a living hell
I'm going to a GI doctor, again, on Monday. I pray he can help.
I didnot realize that there are so many people with this type of problem. I pray you all find an answer.
I have both diagnoses. For the SIBO, they did breath testing and that helped them choose another antibiotic for treating the SIBO. That felt like the definition of insanity if the SIBO was caused by antibiotics but it did see an improvement in symptoms. For the dumping syndrome, I prefer to use soft foods and eat slowly. I have other GI issues (gastroparesis) which limit the ability of them to prescribe the Bentyl which is often used for the dumping syndrome. Mayo GI is good, I am a patient there. But this should be manageable where you're at.
Have they done the breath testing? I don't doubt you've done the research but you didn't mention that. The breath testing can help them choose the right treatment for the SIBO.

I have been around the block with gastroparesis and know for a fact, the best treatment is modifications in diet. Lower fiber, lower fat and no seeds and skins is helpful. I do use some soluble fiber (Citrucel). There is a good info on Mayo Connect about the gastroparesis diet. And some great recipe books (Amazon is a great source).
Hi I had hernia surgery in 2017 and after that everything went downhill I started getting bloated and really sick nauseous all the time with
Severe stomach pain.
I didn’t know that hernia surgery could give you SIBO. So from 2017 after my stomach surgery I went to at least 23 different doctors and no one knew what it was until just recently this month March 2023 I found out after all those years I was walking around with SIBO.
I was told to go to a nutritionist and she put me on this stuff called ——-absorb Plus — you take a big heaping tablespoon to 8 ounces of water and you have to mix it in a blender and it replaces all the nutrients that SIBO robs from the body. Look for it online on Amazon it will make you feel so much better. So I’ll write out the one that I use and you could try it absorb Plus. Unsweetened Vanilla.
I was diagnosed with SIBO. Along with dietary changes ( fruits lower in sugar like bananas but could continue with berries), I also took a prebiotic and probiotic in pill form. After a period of time, my doctor took me off the prebiotic and I’m still on the probiotic. Fermented foods (sauerkraut, pickles bought in the refrigerated section at the grocery store, kefir which I add to smoothie and Greek yogurts are also good foods to consume for SIBO to build up the good bacteria in the GI tract.
You’ll learn after trial and error what doesn’t cause you any upset or minimal upset.
Wishing the best, I know it’s journey.
Hi @claytamos, what natural supplement regimen did you use? Was the natural regimen guided by a medical professional? Would you share? I have a SIBO-D diagnosis, my primary has prescribed the Xifaxan without any subsequent recurrence prevention or root cause discovery. I have been researching alternatives while awaiting the insurance prior auth for the med, the research has lead me to believe that Xifaxan may not be the best option.
Any info / experience will be appreciated.
