Hi Read your response.

My heart goes out to you 'and other in groups experiencing excruciating pain on spine and bones and joints. Understandably people who have not had any experience with pain on their spine or lower vertebrate eg osteoporosis and other spinal conditions have no idea what the experience is like. This is the reality of how it is. and this can make us so depressed and angry. Understandably we don't want sympathy we want relief from pain.

Glad to learn your son is trying to help you. HE has to be very special.
Just as a suggestion, I try to mentally psych yourself into a different mind set and try to distract yourself with some kind of activity like maybe an activity you once enjoyed. Watercolors, listening to music, gardening embroidering, sewing. crafts, ect ect. ( not cleaning your house). A nice long hot bath soak with scent is calming too. Because of my kidney transplant I can never soak in a bathtub again for fear of infection. The epson salt was my savior with lavender. Can't explain what it does but you feel so much better after a 30-45 min soak with the warmest water possible. Careful getting in and to of a tube. Rail are crucial to have for anyone with back issues. You can loose your balance and this is not good. Safety is vip. NO rushing either.

I enjoy an occasional very soft tissue massage on other parts of the body on head, face, hands and temples. which don't hurt in addition to using pressure points located all over the body. There is tons of info on internet, you tube videos and books stores. Pressure point and massage is Never done on spine but is gently on muscles not near spine. I also use a topical cream sold on Amazon called Pain Busters. (I don't work for the company. ) It's reasonably priced. ITs great for those who have arthritis and muscle pain. Check with your doctor before using anything over the counter that could mess with present medication you are taking.

IT's exasperating trying to distract oneself when you feel as you are going out of your mind with pain. People can't understand it as mentioned in prior post because they have never had your experience. I too early on could not put on a happy face. Everyone faces obstacles in life at some point of their life, some more than others. ITs the loss of control over our bodies that can depress us. Understanding the source helps to sort things out .

I remember my mother said, Let remember we aren't bionic. Drs sadly cannot identify the needs of the total body and mind. ITs my belief only that many doctors think that we need is a medication that takes care of pain and other issues. They are often clueless. IT's so easy to prescribe meds for pain. IT's just that after a while the body gets used to them and we need stronger ones. Drs are willing to accommodate this need for pain relief and sadly some people become addictive to slew of medications that after a while do not work effectively. . Can't even think what that does to other parts of the body like the liver and heart, besides messing with your mind. Yikes.

I also have had plenty of anger. I learned all by myself and training as a social work that I had to let go of as it didn't help.... a friends son got me a punching bag and I used it when I need to let go of that anxiety and anger that builds up cause of the pain otherwise we can mentally implode.

Everyone no matter who you are what you have done in life have creativity in one form or another. Find that part of you which can create something that makes you happy with yourself. Sewing. Cooking a great dish, Gardening. teaching small children mentoring children, list is endless. Joining a towns senior group usually runs by town or city itself. Some will even provide transportation.

Even volunteering on a very small scale if you are able to do so. I have learned that if I focus on something else other than myself by doing something small helps. IF you are able to go out, Listen to nature. IF you can't walk have someone situate. you on a nice chair or bench with a cushioned donut pad( found at medical supply store/ or amazon. When in nature close your eyes and really listen to the sounds around you. Consider yourself as a gift which has contributed much to your family and people around you.

So many of us have fallen right into the hole of total depression. As we age all of us will experience different things medically. Don't be afraid. Fear paralyzes people. THE body may not work as we want but no one can take your mind set.

Sorry I get carried away here, Hope some of these suggestions help. Have some faith in yourself as people have overcome many mental and physical obstacles.... just try your best. Gentle on yourself. .... try one small thing to change your daily life. Don't know if you can also have acupuncture... if it is safe... I understand that also can block pain. Check with your doctor as well. Good luck.

Has anyone tried acupuncture for spinal pain?

I am having acupuncture treatments right now for some thoracic pain I’m experiencing. I believe it is helping. The pain/muscle spasms have lessened in intensity and the pain is ‘different’. My episodes are further apart. The acupuncturist is working with me on Inflammation & foods that cause inflammation. Acupuncture works, but it is not an overnight remedy. Inflammation is a huge cause of pain throughout our bodies.

Could be sacral torsion/misalignment. A good PT will be able to give you a quick check to see (mismatched strength testing with knees and ankles). Then they’ll be able to realign you with a whim wham and give you some good exercises. A bad PT will not know how to check and will assign random stretches that won’t work for weeks while your pain gets worse, especially after a long canoing trip.

I have suffered with this for years. While the pain feels like it is in the tailbone and many lower areas, I am told it’s whole source is degenerative arthritis of the spine. Lyrica and Cymbalta help a great deal but do not eliminate the pain. I went through the spinal cord stimulator trial recently and it helped a lot. Now I’m awaiting permanent placement. But I’ve learned on here that a good trial result does not promise that permanent placement will give relief. However, I have a friend in Dallas who has had one for years and says she probably could not get out of bed without it.

I am so sorry. I suffer as well with a bad butt. Mine is nerve damage. I can't stand to sit and I can't stand too long. I lay on my side in bed for about 90+% of each day. I would like to hear how you are feeling better.

It feels like I’m sitting and lying on a pile of rocks. Ortho told me I have a pinched nerve in L4. It’s affected my left leg with knife like pains and extreme tightness that hasn’t gone away in months. I get a little relief from Extra Strength Excedrin
Has anyone tried acupuncture for nerve pain?????????
