I cannot clear my throat; feels like mucus is there. Suggestions?

I must comment about your suggestion to contact Mayo Clinic. I tried to make an appointment with Mayo Clinic in Phoenix for my throat clearing and got turned down. I don't know why and it makes me suspicious about them. So, I am not at all impressed with the Mayo Clinic!

Oh my, sorry to hear this. We have been to Mayo in MN and couldn’t be more impressed with every aspect. We have done a six week stay as well as yearly visits. They saved my husband.

It sounds like you’ve taken the appropriate steps to seek care at Mayo Clinic.
Unfortunately Mayo Clinic receives more requests for appointments than available openings. Mayo's physician experts have likely reviewed your case with their colleagues. Their review led them to determine that Mayo Clinic cannot offer further treatment for you at this time. It is the goal to provide the best care each patient needs, however Mayo does not want you to incur additional costs for evaluation or travel if they do not feel they can offer care that is different from what you’re already receiving.

I know this is disappointing and hard to hear. Some members have reported that they've made an appointment request to another Mayo Clinic location and had success. Or they tried at a later date and been successful.

Would it be possible for your local doctor to make a referral for you?

Try Manuka Honey lozenges. You can find them on Amazon. I find that honey in hot water also helps but this is a chronic condition and diet helps. Try the book Dropping Acid. it has lots of good information.

You may have "globus sensation" which is a term for a feeling of a lump in the throat when no true lump exists. Maybe an ENT doctor after examing you and doing laryngoscopy to make sure there is no active disease in your throat & vocal cords would be helpful. It could be due to stress and anxiety, acid reflux, enlarged thyroid disease or an increased tension in the neck & throat muscles. Look it up on the internet to see if your symptoms go along with this idea.
