Hashimoto Barrett’s and diverticulitis

Posted by juneyv @juneyv, Nov 26, 2022

What type of doctor is best?
For all three.
I have recently been diagnosed with all three. Past 1 1/2 I have had two horrible attacks of diverticulitis. Each time I bleed for 30-33 hours, went into shock and blacked out once.
I wouldn’t wish this pain on anyone.
Plus Hashimoto’s was diagnosed by my Gyn. I had been going to general MD doing blood test for years but always told my thyroid was fine.
Finally I ask my GyN to do my thyroid profile and it was less than 6 months since MD did it. But I had had symptoms for over 5 years. I see a digestive doctor also. Should I see an endocrinologist? Or what type of doctor should I see for the autoimmune issue of Hashimoto’s ?
I have arthritis, a hernia, 6 herniated disk, a neck that needs fused, a repair aneurysm, shoulder replacement, among other things. I am still active and can still do more than most. Use to hurting, take no pain meds, they make me sick.

I just want a good doctor and need to figure out who would be best to treat the disease issues.

Hashimoto, diverticulosis/diverticulitis
Barrett esophagus
The main issues today 😄

Hello @juneyv, Welcome to Connect. It sounds like you might need more than one doctor specialty. I'm not a medical professional and have no medical training or background but from what I've read, you would probably want an endocrinologist Hashimoto's and a gastroenterologist for Barrett's and diverticulitis.

A good choice would be to seek help at a major teaching hospital or health facility like Mayo Clinic that practices multidisciplinary teamwork to care for the patient. If I'm not mistaken the concept of multispecialty teamwork originated with Mayo Clinic but a lot of teaching hospitals and major health facilities use a multidisciplinary approach for patient healthcare.

Have you thought about seeking help at a teaching hospital or major health facility?
