Ablation Success
I am just wondering how successful people have found ablations. I have had two, the second having lasted three years now. I don't know if there is data about how long the ablations usually "hold." I've been told that 50% of people are back in a-fib after five years. Also, are there people who have had numerous ablations? Just curious about the experiences of others. When I had a-fib I was very symptomatic.

thanks for asking...went in early yesterday and was home by 5pm...everything went according to plan... doc said no complications or difficulties this time......he quickly found the gaps he suspected were near the right pv....then spent a few hours trying to find other gaps, triggers etc. but could not induce any further afib or flutter....some minor pacs but they were close to the phrenic nerve so he did not want to risk any damage there...so looks good ..time will tell...up and about feeling pretty good...
@kai Sounds Great, Its a very positive success that your home the same day. Now just a bit of healing. That's the same kind of report I got after my second that he found what he was looking for.

My first ablation lasted 2 1/2 years. I’m getting ready to have my second ablation in a few months and I was in the hospital six days with my first cause I don’t do surgeries well little nervous about going through it again.
My question is...has anybody had an ablation for Afib and had it last? It sounds like most only last 2-5 years? I guess I'm believing that since I've been in normal rhythm since April 2022 when I had my first ablation that I am done...from this discussion I guess I'm probably wrong about this.. Kinda disheartened but want to be real.
In the book, "The AFIB Cure" the authors, two leading EP's, explain that while ablation is not a cure for AFIB itself, it provides critical time for the patient to make the lifestyle changes that can result in a permanent remission. It's all in the book, including a comprehensive explanation of exactly what changes are necessary.
I've had an Afib ablation in 2008. Was in procedure for 7 hours. Since then I've had one episode for which I had a reset of my heart rhythm. I was very symptomatic prior to the ablation, now nothing. Very grateful to the team at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia. Hope this helps.
I had an ablation about 4 years ago.
Now Afib is coming back once every few weeks for about 6 to 8 hours .
Frustrating. May be looking to a 2nd ablation in the future.
Good luck. Hope all goes well for you.
