Thank you. As a matter of fact my PCP told me to take Myralax instead of Magnesium oxide which could cause potential diarrhea. I will take Myralax for a while to see how it works. Also someone mentioned Colace but it is not mentioned too often. Thanks for the information
Mayo is enrolling patients in a study of miralax impact on kidneys. Lets pursue this! I am currently taking ine teaspoon of Miralax daily with 2 tsp of benefiber. Need to improve water intake. Does anyone have more information te miralax and kidneys?
Have anyone who suffers from constipation has heard about Magnesium Oxide? I understand it comes in capsules. I take Myralax but I heard it is not good for your kidneys if you take it frequently so I am stopping it. Any information about it will be appreciated. Thank you
I use Magnesium LOTION on my body for aches and pains. If I use a bit too much it has a laxative effect. However, it’s transdermal so the magnesium does not affect your organs! If you are constipated you can apply the lotion to your skin.
And it helps my arthritis pain…
I get the lotion or oil on Amazon.
What is working for me is one dose of Miralax daily, spaced a couple hours between servings of Citrucel or psyllium fiber. Previously I was also taking 4 oz of prune juice in the morning, but stopped because of it's high sugar content. These steps were at the recommendation of my G.I. Dr. He also said Citrucel would produce less gas than psyllium.
How much Citrucrl do you take daily? In past a full dose of Miralax is more than I can handle. Have cut it to alternate days and reduced dosage of Miralax at my Drs suggestion —still not resolving issues. For about 13 days I was functioning without any of above then constipation returned! Strange!

I was taking two doses of Citrucel daily but cut it back to once daily because it was upsetting my stomach if I took it without food. Once a day works just as well for me as twice a day. Sometimes I use psyllium powder instead. I take a little less than a full dose of Miralax a day.
Can Benefiber be a good substitute for Miralax that was Prescribed to be taken daily? Can it be used while taking Miralax ? Mayo suggestions re daily schedule, diet, exercise all very helpful
I use Senokot which isnt the best choice I do get cramping but not that excessive bloating (looked pregnant and I am thin) and in terms of emptying bowel, works better for me (& other side effects)which never seemed to end. I have a script for plenacatide ($ 200 for 20 pills here in Canada) but had such a bad experience with Linzess which is called Constella here and they are same family of drugs...so many people on this site recommend magnesium but I have an arrythmia and long term mag use not a good idea for me. My problem became significantly worse after beginning Prolia injections for osteoporosis. Sorry not a big help, but try the senokot occasionally and see.

Are you still taking the Prolia injections ? I've been getting them for at least five years or more for steroid related osteoporosis. Now I'm beginning to wonder if the Prolia has screwed me up. I have chronic, every day is a battle, constipation.
I've had Crohn's disease for many years, and like most people, loose bm's were my main problem. Then at some point it started morphing into constipation and here I am. I missed my last shot that was due in late December and am now wondering if I should just stay off......

Be careful. Just stopping Prolia is risky behaviour! Puts you at risk for spontaneous compression fractures that can happen for up to 2 years after stopping without "relaying" on to another drug (one of the bisphosphonates). The longest you should go between injections is 7 mos.
Yes, I am still on Prolia. Now I am taking break from Senokot and on Miralax. Less cramping but tons of bloating.
I firmly believe it is the Prolia that has made my g.i. issues much much worse (both constipation and acid reflux). Now to get off I would have to do intravenous delivered Reclast and then be able to take break from drugs for a while. The Reclast can stay in system for 18 mos. Who knows what that drug will do?
Also I need a lot of invasive dental work and I think working on patients on bisphosphonates worries dentists even more than Prolia.
Please speak to your doctor re stopping Prolia. At the osteoporosis clinic I go go the endocrinologists would strongly advise against this as does Amgen the drug company that makes Prolia.
Are your g.i. issues better since you stopped?
Thank you ripley!
