Anyone else been diagnosed with a borderline ovarian tumor?

Posted by EW @ew62, Sep 3, 2022

Two years ago, I underwent a hysterectomy to remove an 11cm tumor on my left ovary, and all the markers pointed to cancer. After my surgery, results showed I had a borderline tumor. Thus I did not need chemo or radiation. I go in every six months for blood work and scans for further tumor development. I am tumor free thus far. Has anyone else been diagnosed with a borderline tumor? I am curious as there is not a lot of information about them.

Thank you!!

It's ok lol I am new as well. I didn't even know this Mayo Clinic Connect existed and I think it's so awesome to have because we can get so much insight from others.

Yes, absolutely this is a great resource.
Will your surgery be laparoscopic?
my surgery was laparoscopic, it has been a lot more rough recovery than I expected.

Hi Helen thank you for responding. Yes I was diagnosed with serous boarderline tumor. I shared my story down below. I have several questions for my doctor

I found out my family history-
Father-had kidney removed because of cancer, grandmother had breast cancer twice and full hysterectomy
Mother-never goes to the doctor but says she’s never had any problems

1.)Will I have any blood work screening done?
2.)Genetic testing?
3.)How often is there reoccurrence? How can I help this not to come back?
4.)Why did the palopian tube get left behind?
5.)Am I going to need treatment?
6.)The pathology report says there was spillage during surgery is anything done about that?

That is the only questions I’ve got so far

@kirstinleigha These are very good questions to ask your doctor.

You can ask your doctor - maybe the Gyn Oncologist for a cancer survivorship plan. I was given this by my doctor after my hysterectomy that was performed for endometrial cancer. Many of your questions could be answered by such a plan.

You could ask the following:

Will I be on a cancer surveillance schedule to check for any signs of recurrence? (By example, my cancer surveillance schedule was to be seen every 6 months for the first few years).

Will I need more treatment? Radiation therapy, immunotherapy or chemotherapy?

You wrote that the pathology report indicates spillage during surgery. I don't know what that is but I think you might be asking if there is further treatment for the spillage. Is that correct?

You wrote in another post here that your appointment with the Gyn Oncology doctor was scheduled for Friday. Was that for today? If so, what information did you get from the GYN Oncologist you saw today?

@kirstinleigha Oh, I'm so sorry. I meant to include links to describe what a cancer survivorship plan is.

Thanks for clarifying when your appointment with the gyn oncologist will be. It will be next week on February 17, right?

Leigha, thinking of you as you prepare for your appointment on Friday. Have you got your questions for the gyn oncologist ready?

Hey everyone,
My appointment went well..
All of my questions were answered and my oncologist was amazing!!
I will be going back in for another surgery to have biopsies done and he will remove my fallopian tube because for some reason the obgyn left the fallopian tube.
