Anyone else been diagnosed with a borderline ovarian tumor?

Posted by EW @ew62, Sep 3, 2022

Two years ago, I underwent a hysterectomy to remove an 11cm tumor on my left ovary, and all the markers pointed to cancer. After my surgery, results showed I had a borderline tumor. Thus I did not need chemo or radiation. I go in every six months for blood work and scans for further tumor development. I am tumor free thus far. Has anyone else been diagnosed with a borderline tumor? I am curious as there is not a lot of information about them.

Thank you!!

May I ask your age at diagnosis? I’m mid 50’s. The oldest person I’ve heard of being diagnosed was 67. Were either of yours malignant?

Anxiety tonight before seeing a doctor in the morning.

Hugs.

Hello, I am 58 yrs old and diagnosed with borderline ovarian tumor, stage 1C2. I had remaining ovary removed one week ago (total hysterectomy in 2017 to remove everything, but kept one ovary) which had been causing lots of pain for the past 2 months. Gynecologist recommends CA-125 test in 3 months and if all is well, then no further follow up. I'm not really satisfied with this level of follow up and seeking a second opinion. I want to consult with a knowledgeable expert on these tumors and have some resource for follow up if any future issues arise. Thanks to all of you ladies for posting your experiences, as it is very helpful.

I have a tumor on left ovary not sure what kind yet. It's a complex solid cystic tumor measuring 4.4 cm which grew from 3.8 cm in 2 months. Went to OBGYN yesterday having surgery on the 28. He said it doesn't look good that he's afraid it's cancer. Doing a partial hysterectomy with the possibility of a full hysterectomy with radiation & chemotherapy if cancer spread. I have came across your type of tumor while researching. Are you going to have it removed?

@kirstinleigha. Welcome to our support group for gynecological cancers. I imagine that you are pretty frightened after hearing the word "tumor" and worrying whether the tumor is cancer or not.

Have you been diagnosed with a serous borderline ovarian tumor? If so, have you already discussed a treatment plan with your doctor? What questions do you have for your doctor?

Hello I am new here.
I am 24 years old and I had to have my right ovary removed due to a Serous boarderline Tumor.
My surgery was 3 weeks ago and was done by my OBGYN. When he went in for surgery he believed all I had was a cyst But now since the discovery that this was a tumor was a little more serious, I’ve been referred to an gynecologic oncologist and my appointment is next Friday. basically playing the waiting game until my appointment with my new Dr.
I’m happy to be able to connect with people who have been through the same thing as me.
It’s been having a rollercoaster of emotions.
My OBGYN really couldn’t shed light on what the oncologist might recommend, besides blood work.

Hi Helen thank you for responding. Yes I was diagnosed with serous boarderline tumor. I shared my story down below. I have several questions for my doctor

I found out my family history-
Father-had kidney removed because of cancer, grandmother had breast cancer twice and full hysterectomy
Mother-never goes to the doctor but says she’s never had any problems

1.)Will I have any blood work screening done?
2.)Genetic testing?
3.)How often is there reoccurrence? How can I help this not to come back?
4.)Why did the palopian tube get left behind?
5.)Am I going to need treatment?
6.)The pathology report says there was spillage during surgery is anything done about that?

That is the only questions I’ve got so far

It's ok lol I am new as well. I didn't even know this Mayo Clinic Connect existed and I think it's so awesome to have because we can get so much insight from others.
