Dizziness

Posted by 4720retire @4720retire, Oct 6, 2022

I am 81 years old and started having dizziness or lightheaded about 2 years ago. It started about the time of Covid but don’t know if it is related. I’ve had a mri, mra as well seeing many doctors. None have found the cause. I’m pretty good while sitting or inactive but bothers me when active or walking. Looking for information someone may have.

If you’re taking any medications, has your doctor cleared them all for dizziness side effects. My blood pressure medicine had to be changed twice before I had some relief. My dizziness is not gone, but it’s much better on good days. I consulted an ENT and he prescribed physical therapy for balance issues. Though not a cure, it gave me more confidence and strength to help prevent falls.

Hello!
I am 70 and after a couple of vertigo experiences in the past learned about the inner ear crystals getting out of place which responds to Epley maneuver as mentioned above.

Physical Therapists are trained in Epley Maneuver and there are some who have deeper expertise in diagnosing and treating dizziness symptoms: Vestibular Physical Therapists.

Recently I have had treatment for dizziness and nausea from a Vestibular PT because symptoms were different than crystal displacement for which Epley Maneuver was insufficient.

I also think my new statin medication-Atoravastin-exacerbated the nausea symptoms accompanying the lightheadedness and equilibrium issues.

Check out a local PT practice to see if there is someone who can help.

Sending supportive thoughts!💐💐💐💐

I am really frustrated. As I said before, I believe I've had ever test available in Tucson with no help for my dizziness or lightheaded problems. This all started about the time I had the Pfizer vaccines and two boosters for COVID. My doctor suggested Mayo so I called for a appointment. They did not accept my Medicare Advantage insurance. I decided I would self pay but Mayo does not accept this either so I went through the process of getting a different insurance they would accept. I called for an appointment and said they will review my situation. A few days later they sent an email saying they have limited availability and cannot offer an appointment and I should talk to my doctor to determine the next steps for my care. Any suggestions?

I had a period of extreme dizziness (vertigo). Upon awakening I would fall on the floor. I got an appointment with a specialist, butit took so long to see him the vertigo passed. Vertigo has something to do with crystals in the ear out of place. One or two sessions with a specialist gets them back where the belong. Try this, or search. https://my.clevelandclinic.org/health/treatments/17930-canalith-repositioning-procedure-crp

This sounds exactly the same symptoms I have; I am 83 YO female; I was diagnosed with Polycythemia Vera almost 3 years ago; the most comments I have read on this disease is the problems with fatigue and dizziness.
I am going to see E,N. T spec. next week; could be inner ear problem, my Mother had that.
WIll try to get back to you afterward to see is any addtional information.
If not ear problems, then it is Neurologist.
Good Luck and my best wishes that things improve for you.
