Thrush after anti-rejection treatments: What helps?

Posted by jbaggi @jbaggi, Nov 7, 2022

I had to go through two rounds of anti-rejection treatments this summer for mild rejection. I finished the last treatment 4 weeks ago. Now I have a case of thrush . This has lasted for 3 weeks.
I was taking nystatin during the treatments. Now I’m on 100 mg of fluconazole every day for 10 days. It seems to be getting worse.
I do have lupus, and have had it for 42 years.

Thanks for your comments. I read the posts in the support groups. Especially liked the one that called prednisone satan’s tic tacs. I can really relate to that. Thought it was hilarious but true.

Good morning @jbaggi 😊
I think you are having your Allosure and DSA blood tests today. I am going to Mayo tomorrow for both blood tests too (along with getting my BK viral load tested). Please keep me posted on how you make out and I will keep you posted on my results. Good luck to both of us! ❤

Hey:
Saw my transplant doc today. She said everything looks good. No scarring or apparent kidney damage after rejection treatments.
I asked her about my antibody numbers. Over 6000 before treatment and 400 after. They aren’t running any new DSA or AlloSure numbers at this time.
I also had pulmonologist appointment today. Lung function test was below normal. Going to try some breathing exercises and a new inhaler to improve lung function. This has been an ongoing battle since I was diagnosed with lupus.
Hope everything goes well for you.

Hi @jbaggi 😊
I am sooo happy to hear that there was no scarring or apparent kidney damage after your rejection treatments.... That is wonderful news! Was your antibodies numbers from the last HLA Class I and II blood test you had? (I am pretty sure that's the name of the DSA test, am I right about that?)

Results were from my last blood tests in late October. I think that’s the name of the blood test but not sure.

Thank you @jbaggi 😊 for sharing your wonderful news regarding your kidney! I really appreciate hearing about your positive outcome. It makes me very happy that things worked out well for you regarding your kidney. I am hoping your new inhaler and exercises will help to slowly increase your lung capacity back to normal.
Please continue to keep me updated on your progress and I will keep you posted on my progress too!
