I am 10 weeks out from double TKR and 3 weeks out from MUA. I'm still experiencing the burning on the sides of the knees and across the patella. PT tells me the same, "be patient and see how it goes". At 3 1/2 weeks out it sounds like you are doing great!
I am at 6 weeks. Mine was a recall from 4 years 7 months ago on the part they put in. The tightest and burning still has me in tears some days even with pain meds and muscle relaxer. PT says it’s my quad. ROM is at 116. Straighten it out. Flexibility is at 0. Have only slept all night 4 nights in last 6 weeks. Have been up all night last night. Was up by 5 am yesterday morning with no naps. How do you make the tightest and burning go away ? I cannot even drive yet.

As far as I know they replaced all. Took other part completely out and put new one in. I have talk to nurse. No explanation. The doctor is only there one day a week. See him this week. I finally went to sleep after being up for almost two nights straight. Still hurting today. It burns, tight, feels like pins and needles. Pain meds are not helping. It hurt so bad last night wanted to go to hospital. Hospital is over a hour away or I would probably had my fiancée take me. I am wondering if it’s the nerves. I do have some nerve damage in both legs. More in other leg than right one they did surgery on. Maybe I will find out something next week. Thank You

I order the ice pack. Supposed to be here today. Therapist says my quads and hamstrings are weak. The exercise that they put the round wedge under the knee and lift your knee up. Mine want budge. I have the ice machine from hospital. Does not keep back of knee cold. Maybe I need ice on back of knee also. Someone ask on Amazon if that one worked on both sides. They said no. Had a new one out that did. After looking at measurements of the difference in sizes. I went with the regular one. Since I am a tiny. I figured XXL would be to big for me. Have a ice pack wrapped in cloth. Just got it out of freezer and wrapped around my knee. Not very cold.
I had partial knee replacement on both knees a month apart about 2012 and about a year ago I started getting burning pain on the outside of my legs from my knee to my ankle on both legs and it's very uncomfortable when trying to sleep in the middle of the night and sitting in my car and the only thing that helps is injection and it only last for 3 or 4 months and my x-ray on my knees and that bone looks good so do anyone have or had that problem and what did you do.

I had my total knee replacement on my left knee about 11 months ago. My left knee continues to have this burning sensation at the knee cap and travels down my shin bone right to my ankle. I am becoming anxious as to when this will subside or will it continue? There is also some swelling above the knee area.

Good evening @ccam, and welcome to Connect. We are sharing folks, sort of like your favorite neighbors. Many of us have had similar experiences. I had my second TKR about 16 months ago and this time I followed my surgeon's guidelines for pre-surgery strengthening exercises. He helped by using a Mako robotic system which makes the surgery minimally invasive and improves the accuracy of the procedure.
I remember my first TKR and it seemed to take about a year to recover without the "new" surgery procedure and pre-event exercises. So, I guess the question is........what have you had done and what to you expect.
I do know that the swelling is fluid that collects around the surgery area. You can have that removed by an MFR therapist. It is directed up to your pelvic area where it can be eliminated when you urinate. The burning may have a bit to do with some tight areas that have become restricted. Those areas can also be released with MFR (Myofascial Release) treatment.
Are you still exercising or going to PT? What kind of exercise are you doing at this time?
Have you shared these issues with your surgeon or another medical practitioner?
May you be safe, free, and protected from inner and outer harm.

Very strange given ROM at 116 and extension at zero. Those are good numbers at 6 weeks.
Did you have tightness and burning before? What part of the prosthesis was replaced - tibial, femoral, patellar?
Until this gets resolved, try the Hurt Skurt available on Amazon to ice the whole knee.
Otherwise I'm stumped by this. What does your surgeon say and how do the post-op X-rays look?
Get better friend. I wish I had more to tell you.

And the medication they gave my lyrica doesn't work
@biglady59, I wonder is the posts in this related discussion might be relevant and helpful to your situation:

Have you investigated physical therapy options?
Yes
