What is the best & safest procedure for uterine prolapse?

I’m a 72 years old lady, having a prolapse.
What would be the best and safest procedure with least impact?
Anyone having a good suggestion?

Hi! I am now 72 and had a hysterectomy when I was 30. First bladder lift at 35 second around 40. I have had pelvic floor therapy and not had much of a problem since. I have some leakage but I have other issues that are taking precedence right now. Find a doc that deals with the therapy methods...there are new techniques out there. The pessary thing sounds messy and like something my grandmother had...lol. But, don't give up...no reason we older women can't age gracefully.

Hi,

The pessary is not messy at all and I don’t understand some peoples’ negative reaction to it. My young pelvic floor therapist , a few years ago, had to use one. Like me, she doesn’t feel it at all and told me that hers had a hole in the middle of the ring and she did not have to remove it for intercourse. It’s a small silicone device and, at the tender age of 81, I have been using the same pessary for the past 5 years. No need to replace it as long as you wash it between uses.
A positive plus is that it stops the urge to urinate all the time.

I was diagnosed with uterine prolapse when I was 68. I’m guessing you have made a gyn appointment. I was fitted with a pessary (mine is a rubbery, round disc with two larger holes opposing each other and two smaller holes also opposing). The gyn showed me how to fold it in half and insert it. Gravity and activity works the pessary down, every two to two and a half weeks I remove it at night, wash, air-dry, insert the next morning. At first it feels really weird to do this, but once in, you feel so much more comfortable. I needed reassurance my insides weren’t going to fall out (they won’t). You remove for intimacy. Hope this helps, happy to answer any other questions. Gyn told me surgery doesn’t last that long (5yrs?), I figure I’ll wait for improvements in that option.

I am 66 and have been using a pessary for several years. I have the same insertion, removal and cleaning process. It works great and I have had no issues. I will stick with this as opposed to surgery as long as I can.

Hi,

As a ps…the pessary is not messy at all. I forget to mention that I use a little lubricating gel on the edge of the device for easier insertion. Boom..it’s in. Beats surgery in my opinion…which is a route I am not willing to undergo.

I'm not fond of surgery either. My doctor even discouraged me! I will keep you posted.

I’m actually scared about full hysterectomy (33yo here) since I have a serious decision to make about my reproductive organs health and prolapse issues seems to be even more common in HSD EDS people that have connective tissue disorders. But I also don’t want metastasis so I rather have prolapse with well managed.

When my bladder prolapse as well as rectal and Vaginal , surgery was done for rectal prolapse
in April two surgeries were done one by Colon Dr and Uro/gyn Dr performed vagina prolapse. Did very well with both surgery. Might add I am a diabetic and was using Sugar free
candy for my dry mouth. Sad part it went thru me as fast as I put one in my mouth.
I do not use any sugar free.
Dr did sling surgery which was the best thing I ever did, has improved 100% I am a happy

They do have pelvic floor muscle PT which I did for 2 weeks and stopped.

Actually they can do both surgeries at once if for Hysterectomy>>>>Are you still child bearing
age If Not would go for surgery. Good Luck

Many do both at the same time.

I was using the pessary till they kept coming out and others was inserted but had to have
surgery as vagina dropped as well as everything else.

Surgery was not bad yes recover does take time. Not too bad

I am 79 years of age and had surgery as all fell out . No choice on this matter so surgery was done .
I did very well. Considerating I had 2 major surgery's in one day. By two different DR
