what is grovers skin disease?

I had been wondering about any factual underpinnings for detoxification with cilantro and chlorella and therefore Googled "Grover's Disease and mercury." I found the following letter to the editor of a medical site, written by a dermatologist:

"An article was published in the Cutaneous and Ocular Toxicology Volume 24, Number1 entitled “Age related macular degeneration and cutaneous signs of mercury toxicity” which showed that Grover’s disease (transient acantholytic dermatitis) correlates very well with blood mercury levels and can be successfully treated with chelation and avoidance of exposure to mercury, especially seafood (1). This is important because Grover’s disease is increasing in incidence and present treatments are ineffective. This is also important because Grover’s disease coexists with other diseases, especially neurologic diseases, and may give some insight into the etiology of those diseases. The environment is becoming increasingly recognized as a cause of human diseases and it is important to identify these to help eradicate them.
Thank you,

Sincerely, Paul Dantzig MD (PIDMD@aol.com)"

The abstract of the article to which he refers, also authored by him, can be found at:
https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/16832218/ It says:

"Parkinson's disease, macular degeneration and cutaneous signs of mercury toxicity
Paul I Dantzig
PMID: 16832218 DOI: 10.1097/01.jom.0000228351.74230.52
Abstract
Objective: The objective of this study was to determine if there was a relationship between Grover's disease and Parkinson disease.

Methods: Fourteen patients with Parkinson disease and 14 control patients were randomly selected and examined for cutaneous eruptions and blood mercury levels.

Results: Of the 14 patients with Parkinson's disease, 13 had Grover's disease and detectable blood mercury. None of the patients in the control group had a cutaneous eruption and only 2of the 14 had detectable blood mercury.

Conclusion: Mercury may play a role in the etiology of Parkinson disease and Grover's disease."

I got my shingles shots last July and September, waiting 10 weeks between shots. I subsequently came down with Grovers disease. I am 99% positive that the shots were the cause. Absolutely NOTHING works to relieve the itching. For me the only effective remedy, to a small degree, is Motrin. NOTHING else, despite all the prescribed medicines, pills and sprays prescribed by my Dermatologist. I believe, had I waited for 4 months, I may have avoided it.

The best thing you can do is read a number of the older posts on this site. The BEST available information about this disease. Look for gardeningjunkie, she is amazingly knowledgeable. Try Cilantro smoothies or get the Cilantro oil on Amazon. There is no one size fits all for this disease. You have to try all the various remedies to see what works for you.

Medical chelation is explained here: https://www.webmd.com/balance/guide/what-is-chelation-therapy. Natural chelation reportedly can be accomplished via the oral ingestion of cilantro and chlorella; this appears to be generally accepted. If you read through the Grover's forums here and on Facebook, you will see that many people swear by cilantro, or cilantro/chlorella, smoothies for relief, remission, and even cure. Since cilantro and chlorella are metal detoxifiers, I was researching whether there is a known link between Grover's and heavy metal toxicity. The findings reported above are all that I found from within the medical community. The evidence is far from conclusive, but at least it comes from a physician.

Greetings! I recently got this uncomfortable and debilitating Grover's Decease. As I try to manage it, in addition to prescribed medicine (hydroxyzine), I get some relief from over the counter Zrytec. Hope this is helpful, Barry

Part of the frustration of Grover's is that it seems to affect everyone differently, and everyone responds differently to itch relievers. On my first visit to an allergist, she prescribed a quadruple dose of Zyrtec because I told her I had gotten no relief from Benadryl. The Zyrtec did absolutely nothing either. But many people, like you, do get some relief from antihistamines.

Agree and all you can do is try everything that’s out there. Some people have luck with Gold Bond. Did nothing for me. Been doing cilantro for 4 days now and today was my best day. Made it to 6pm before I felt any itching.
