Long covid prickly burning hands at night

Posted by markitect @markitect, Dec 22, 2022

Hello all, this may seem a mild symptom but I cannot sleep at night due to a burning prickling sensation in my hands and often numbness in hands by morning. The symptom started after my first vaccine a year ago, mildly, and increased dramatically following 2 weeks laid up with covid. I have carpal tunnel in both hands. Any advice welcomed, I’m trying every possible vitamin and have wrist supports, do wrist exercises etc. thanks for any advice

I also have pin pricking feelings in my hands. My nerve test found one had had mild carpal tunnel, and the other had moderate carpal tunnel. I also have problems in my cerebral spine causing stabbing pain in my arms down to my hands.

I have different pain in my hands. It might be the outside 3 fingers which tell me Carpal Tunnel. But if most or all my fingers are in pain or pain in the back of my arms, or in the top of my forearm, then I know is is my spine.

I wear special carpal tunnel braces that should relieve my carpal tunnel. But I have to rip them off in the middle of the night because my hand is on fire from the prickling pain in my outside fingers.

Sounds like neuro symptoms like I had with guillain barre attack.
Especially notable prior to weather changes and bedtime. Try Paxil (off
label). Keep walking. Don't quit exercising. It may lessen over time.

My child had that after developing POTS following a viral illness (not COVID).
The doctor said it could be related to the POTS but also possibly autoimmune and/or small fiber neuropathy.
(It unfortunately continued to develop into Raynauds and Erythromelalgia and she now has a very high ANA (1:2560) ). The only treatment they have offered is H1/H2 antihistamines and a baby aspirin.

Thank you. Mine is almost certain to be caused by Long Covid. I always have exercised at the gym and on the treadmill 6 x a week. However, for Long Covid, normal exercise seems to make me feel worse and weaker. So, to add to your suggestion, exercise is still important, but be careful to do light workouts and only gradually amp it up. At least, my experience.

As I am reading these accounts my right hand is red and burning. It also itches terribly. There is one red spot on my palm that is maddening. It itches so much I have developed a callous from scratching. All of this and more with post Covid.

My hands and legs get very itchy and hands get hot as well. I put on an anti-itch cream that you can get over the counter at drugstore. Helps a lot. When I have scratched too much I use a corticosteroid cream and helps so can rest and sleep. MD thinks that this symptom will stop in another 6 months, --that will be 8 months since I had a bad case of covid.

Has your Dr not prescribed a neuroleptic med for this? I take Paxol off
label for my neuro itching and skin burning. It is an antidepressant used
"off label" for this. It helps me tolerate this as it is a mood lifter,
too.
