Can you share some Nissen fundoplication success stories?

Posted by aliceorangebike @aliceorangebike, Nov 5, 2019

I’ve read a number of posts from people who are unhappy with the results of their Nissen fundoplication surgeries. I am considering having the surgery and would like to hear from people who are happy with their surgical outcomes. A recent New England Journal of Medicine article reported that two thirds of people are very satisfied with their Nissen outcomes. Do any of these people participate in these posts?

Thanks unfortunately no where near there. I recognize in a support group, Most people will post with problems. My G.I. doctor says that at least at his hospital they’re able to mention most of these cases Medically so that are not surgeon to do it several times a week. But as you say related surgery experience Is important I have a choice between (I think) 2 surgeons he recommended His (well-known teaching hospital), Chief of thoracic surgery at another. Doc wants me doing one more test (Gastric emptying), Just to rule it out because fundoplication would make everything worse if I had that problem. My other choice is mayo. I think I don’t know how they select patients s and I don’t know what the follow up is Once I get home if anybody knows that, please post. Thanks for all the feedback folks!

Ps Hi I use voice activated text to post that last message I’ll try to re-post it more carefully but you can’t edit a post there are a lot of errors so it must be hard to read. Cheryl
I was mostly just asking if anyone has familiarity with a surgeon who has experience with fundoplication surgery in the New York metropolitan area. It seems most doctors do multiple different kinds of surgery and don’t do this one on a regular basis. I haven’t finished researching but I thought I’d ask any responses would be appreciated

Forgot to also mention, when Dr. did my procedure, he also found a hernia, which he repaired at the same time. He said hernia hadn't shown up on scans/x-ray done before the procedure. Again, good luck with your decision/outcome.

Who did your surgery?

My husband had the Linx procedure done at the Mayo Clinic in Jacksonville. It worked great and he never had another problem with acid reflux. However, the acid had already aspirated into his lungs and possibly contributed to him developing pulmonary fibrosis. So, acid reflux is nothing to mess around with. I always suggest to people that they look into the Linx procedure. At least it can be reversed if it doesn't work for you.

Did you not qualify for the Linx procedure. My husband had it and had no problems after the initial adjustment.

I had that procedure last April and it was more successful than I had hoped. It was if I had my stomach stapled. I lost 25 pounds.
