Areds 2 (PreserVision): Anyone experienced muscle pain?

Posted by crabman @crabman, Dec 24, 2021

I have been taking Areds 2 for about 4 months. After about a month my leg hamstring muscles started to pain especially after sitting or lying down. After some activity the pain lessens or goes away but starts again each day when getting up in the morning. I read on other sites that muscle pain is an unusual side effect.

Please let this community know if there is a change in the muscular problem you speak of. I have been on Areds2 for about 2 years and also have noticeable calf pain which I dismissed as aging problem. So would be interested to hear your condition after being off of Areds2 for a bit.

I’ve also been taking AREDS for a few years. In addition to stomach cramps, diarrhea, nausea, I’ve also noticed that lately I’m having calf and foot cramps. I’m going off AREDS to see if these problems clear up.

I can only comment on the stomach problems as have no problems with calf cramps.
I would make sure that you have something to eat before taking the Areds as I know someone else that started making sure to have food in the stomach first eliminated their stomach problems. Hope this info helps

Thx for the reply. I do always take the AREDS with food, like with my first or second bite of breakfast. I’m not sure it would make a difference if I waited until I ate my entire brkfst. (I’m not being argumentative or belittling your suggestion. Just responding to give more info to other readers).

Am not sure it would make a difference either, but I will add that I do take after entire breakfast. It's worth a try.
Good Luck.

I wonder if taking a different brand of Areds 2 would help. I've tried two different brands, due to price and luckily have not had any problems with either. I take Vitalux chewables, but I think they are Canadian, maybe not sold in the States. I get them from both Walmart and Amazon, cheaper from Walmart at the moment. Good luck with them.

You might want to get your magnesium level checked for the leg cramps. Low magnesium can cause them. I reduced my Preservation AReds2 to just one per day because of the toxic zinc levels when taking 2 daily. The highest recommended level per day of zinc is 40mg. Taking 2 Areds daily is giving you twice the maximum allowed. There are other brands with lower zinc levels.

The Vitalux chewables I take contain 12.5 mg of zinc in each tablet. I take them twice a day, when I remember, that is!
