Repeat urinary tract infections: What can I do?
I am having repeated urinary tract infections with a variety of bacteria cultured. I have just learned I have fibromyalgia. I need help and don't know who to see. I was also exposed to a lot of mold (Cladosporium, Aspergillus) when I was teaching school. I have retired, but the UTIs have not.

Do you mean 2 tablespoons each of both apple cider vinegar and organic honey?
I also have frequent UTIs , saw a urogynocologist recently and found out I have prolapse issues, my bladder is being pushed in due to vaginal prolapse and so it never completely empties and bacteria grows, causing bladder infection. Surgery in less than 2 weeks.
I've had recurring UTIs since I was 5 years old (I'm now 69), and also have interstitial cystitis. I've done much better the past few years since a medical student working for my urologist recommended taking 36 milligrams of cranberry PACs a day, and to also take 1,000mg of D-Mannose a day. I no longer have bladder pain, and when I get a UTI, I have less discomfort. I had a burning urethra for years, just constant burning, and after a few months of take the cranberry PACs and D-Mannose, the burning is down to just about 4 times a month. A blessed relief.
For the cleaning up, I know just what you ladies mean! I read to get a set of those plastic mustard and ketchup bottles that you see at restaurants that they refill! I got them at Walmart for a dollar or two, the biggest ones I could find. I keep them filled with water. I lean back after I wee, and squirt everything off, front to back. Then pat dry with a towel. If it's number 2, I wipe up, and then I do my leaning back and squirting front to back routine. It's my ketchup bottle bidet! LOL
Best wishes to all of you,
Cookie
I had this kind of surgery early this year, and I am very glad that it was done. You might want to get some pelvic floor physical therapy after the surgery, cause you have to relearn ho to use the muscles down in there.
This is my third prolapse, all for different but related issues, have had physical therapy for…but didn’t keep it up forever…maybe I should have
I found physical therapy extremely helpful. I had a different kind of genital surgery 3 years ago, and PT also was really great in getting me going again.
Hi, I'm a retired teacher as well, and have a history of recurrent UTI's. I got into trouble when twice the infection went to my kidneys, and hospitalized. I still have trouble with the recurrent UTI's going to my kidneys. My back pain was bad enough I couldn't always tell I had a UTI. Anyway! After 6 years, I was put in touch with a urologist. And he's prescribed Premarin .625 mg to be rubbed 2x/week into the urethra at night, cranberry capsules daily, and a health food supplement called D-Mannose, one level tsp in water daily. Plus he's going to do a cystoscopy in a month. It's a lot! But it's actually working, and I haven't been to Emergency in several months, touch wood. (I have to go right away because it gets to my kidneys so quickly.) At this point, I think I'm just plain lucky to not have had one for a few months! Does this help at all? (I don't have fibromyalgia, but I was just diagnosed out of a clear blue sky with heart failure.)
Same issue my urologist said cranberry tabs and my nurse said d
Mannose which I only take the latter as needed. Didn’t know they made it in powder. Good luck sounds like it is working for you.
Have you tried Triphala ( organic). It’s a probiotic for the colon basically. Been around a thousand years as an Ayurvedic remedy. It’s composed of 3 berries…so it’s a supplement not a synthetic drug. Pretty mainstream now.
It may be effective for you… in terms of producing a more solid excrement ( eliminating the fear of excrement in toilet water splashing) but it won’t address a sphincter issue of course.
Worth a try. Good luck 🌸
I’m so sorry. I hope you never saw the above post until you see this one also. I had a senior moment and confused two remedies that I use for opposing sets of elimination.
Triphala IS a wonderful supplement but used for constipation.
FOR DIARRHEA or loose bowel the thing to use is FLORASTOR. This is the one that is a probiotic for the colon. It’s available online at Amazon and sometimes in CVS but online COSTCO has the best price. It’s a product by Bayer that’s been used for 60 years in Germany ; much newer here but becoming mainstream. It is a yeast product if that’s a concern. It’s a great product .
I tried to edit the first post but could not figure out how to do that.
Good luck 🍀
