What do gastrin levels mean?
I got my results of my gastrin level yesterday. it was 152. it looked like it should be under 100 if im not mistaken. when i got the result on the portal there was no notes. so i sent a message asking and saying i was rather nervous. took about 4-5 hours before i got a response the nurse just said "did you fast" and i said yes i did cause the dr wanted me to fast to get a accurate read. now its the weekend and im a wreck. to back up ,my former GI did a endoscope last june said "linear endrocine cell with possibly autoimmune gastritis" he never did the antibody bloodwork i just got all the other bloodwork recently done. when i saw this new GI a month ago he said the antibody bloodwork was normal he doubt i had autoimmune gastritis but he schedled another endoscope for the end of april. he ordered the gastrin cause he said that was the only test that wasnt done i didnt think much of it i assumed it would be normal like he said all my others were. now im kinda stressed about it especiallly since they didnt respond and now its the weekend. i did just have a 24 hr ph test cause the GI suspected gerd/ silent reflux. i dont know if that could have anything to do with it. i havent been having stomach pains just cant eat/digest certain food but i had my gallbladder out almost a year ago. any feedback would mean so much im so anxious!cthank you!

1 ReactionI am losing my mind. You are from the NETS group that I was emailing with. Am I correct? Sorry, brain fog plus the holiday! LOL
Yes that eas me. I'd love to talk to you again!
Anytime! Just shoot me an email. I just got busy with end of year medical stuff plus the holidays. But anything you want to ask or vent, just email me.
No, @eileenb1022, I am not saying that high gastrin levels indicate cancer. I had cancer, but never had high gastrin levels.
I think I lost your email if you still have mine pls email me thanks
Hi I am very new here I got a Gastrin level of 704, when I was in the hospital at UW . When I got out. My Doctor has done nothing about it. I am 61 year old. One thing I have to say is that I don’t look my age at all everyone thinks I am in my 40’s and that is so funny because my daughter just turned 40 on the 19th of September. . I know that has nothing to do with my levels , but know one takes me serious. It is starting to make me mad. When I see the level should only be between 0/100, I have no clue what this could mean? They did two colonoscopy within a week of each other the first one they missed a couple that are the type of mushroom like ones that are flat and then some other ones, and then they did a EDG on me that was the first one with the first colonoscopy. then I ended up going in the hospital myself because my doctor is just kind of not gonna say what he is but he’s not giving me any answers. He had my EDG scheduled for January 13, 2026. Hosack gonna help me the reason why I’m having these test is because I’ve lost 20 pounds in three weeks and I’m getting no answers because the test that they did the hospital all came back ok. So sad.. a lot of like the bloodwork and stuff like that are off but I have no clue this to what it means or anything and they’re not telling me anything. My doctor wants to see me on the 25th and I’ve been out of the hospital and my test results have been back for quite some time. I got out of the hospital on the 11th because it was a weekend and all the beds were full. I was on the bone floor that’s because my daughter got me in there. She’s good like that and the doctor that I had they gave me four different doctors to see that are really good and he knows my doctor, joke might be on me? but my husband had that EG on the 19th and it was the same doctor that did my first one and she said she wanted to see me cause I had lost a lot more weight since she had seen me and my doctor has not even put the request in for it so I’m kind of at a loss with him. Any answers for any of this? I can tell you the blood results that didn’t come back right but right now I’m really tired. It’s 2:19 here a.m.. I’ve been talking most of this so there might be mistakes in it. I’m sorry there are Thank You key61.

2 ReactionsWelcome to Mayo Clinic Connect, @j0di0112. Sorry to hear about the 20 pounds lost in three weeks, confusing results and the lack of answers.
Are you feeling like you will get the answers you need this week on the 25th? Or are you considering getting a second opinion from another doctor?

2 ReactionsWas gonna say also....find a new doctor if this one won't explain anything. ASK questions DEMAND answers. DO YOUR OWN research to learn what the different tests do so you are more educated as well. If you know what gastrin tests look for then you can ask good questions and the doctor will know you ain't messing around, and if they still can't give you answers then find a new one.
I refuse to put up with a doctor who can't explain things. Or won't listen to what I am saying. If I feel like they are doing either and I confront them and still they won't change. I will leave and find a new one.
