Getting off Wellbutrin with least amount of withdrawal or side effects
I have been on Wellbutrin for depression 20 years. It is no longer working. How do I go about stopping it with the least amount of withdrawal or side effects?

Weclome @rucker25, I can understand your wish to taper off Wellbtrin since it is causing you swallowing issues. But tapering can bring its own set of side effects as you as experiencing.
To help you connect with other members with experience tapering, I moved your message to this discussion.

Might you be able to reduce more slowly and allow your body to adjust? How is your swallowing issue on 75mg?
I have been on Wellbutrin on and off for years as it is the only antidepressant that works for me. I am 70 years old. I have not had problems with swallowing or withdrawal symptoms you described. I believe you should contact your doctor soon.
Greetings. I want to stop antidepressant. I have been taking bupropion/Wellbutrin for depression for about 18 months at 150mg once a day. I am no longer depressed. I have an aversion to taking chemicals into my body. Yes, I am unvaccinated but had Covid January 2020. I have natural immunity. ANYONE have experience with tapering or should I go 'cold turkey.'
Never never cold Turkey the chemical withdrawal is something you will not want to experience ever
Slow take your time get advice from your dr AND pharmacist !
I have been told by a dr to taper slowly and then by another it’s ok you have tapered long enough and whoa it hit me too soon!!
No one knows till you try to taper how your body will adjust it’s a major shock so taper taper taper slowly!
Hello....I am also in the process of quitting Wellbutrin. I am down from 300mg to 150 per day. I will be seeing my primary care physician next month and I will request 75 mg. I am tapering slowly because going cold turkey is not a good idea. I am also investing in a FDA approved device by Fisher Wallace. It has a good track record in dealing with depression and anxiety, among other things. Best....
I've been on welbutrin for over 6 yrs. I also take lexapro. at my age, late 60s, I'm content to just stay put since I'm finally feeling better after being on 02. I have tried to wean of antidepressants but the brain zaps keep me taking the med. talk to ur dr and let us know.
as to ur vax status for covid..... not sure why it was mentioned. and ur immunity is only good for 90 days after having the virus. at least that's what I have understood.
Thank you for your response. I mentioned by vax status because it is my example of how I do not want to continue putting chemicals in my body. I am 'tainted' and have become distrusting of current western medical practices. and am adamantly adverse to putting chemicals in my body. There are too numerous opinions and science 'out there' about the covid vax and natural immunity. Personally, I am tired to the max at age 70 of going to see a doctor and walking out with at least one new prescription to 'cure me.' The medical community is all about big pharma and making money, in my opinion. Personally, I don't think doctors give a darn. Medical school graduates no longer take the Hippocratic Oath. I have worked very hard to change my behaviors and my life to not be depressed. I want to try life drug free.
Thank you
Thank you for your response. I have the Fisher Wallace device and find it very helpful. I will talk to my pharmacist today! I believe the lowest dosage of Wellbutrin is the 150mg tablet, which I take once a day. If you have information about dosage, I would appreciate receiving it.
I think 150 mg may be the lowest extended release but I currently have 100 and 75 mg in my arsenal.
