My Experience on Evenity for Treating Osteoporosis

Is fatigue the only symptom? How long does it last or is it on going? I will be starting in January 2023, curious. I'm wondering if fatigue is a common side effect, maybe it's the bodies way of mending? (growing bones). I would just rest when your tired. Regards..

I went to two different physicians in opposing health care programs in Louisville and I got different results on their Dexa Scans. So which one is correct? I went with the Dexa Scan from the surgeon's office. But, how could their be two different numbers. The one group two doctor's had decided that they were not going to put me on meds while the surgeon and the Endoclinologist stated otherwise. After discussing with the doctor who was able to get me on Evenity, it's hard to argue with the Endoclinologist and the Surgeon since they deal with this issue.

I did have a MILD headache for a couple of days, but the fatigue and sleepiness was Crazy! The doctor’s staff said “your body is getting use to a foreign medication and it should subside”! She said probably by the third time. I’m praying!!

My fatigue lasted about 2 weeks since it's the half life of Evenity. It wasn't only fatigue, but the spaciness that went with it. I decided to discontinue after the 6th shot. There were other side effects like muscle spasms, jaw and tooth pain. I didn't like how this was evolving .I am currently on Fosamax. I hope the side effects arent as problematic. I have a cousin who had breast cancer a few years ago. She had a lot of cancer treatments that she said had destroyed her bone.

@diannestanley I also had those cancer treatments (aromatase inhibitors) and the do cause decreased bone density but I would not say they destroyed my bones.

If you ever want to do Tymlos, they have a patient assistance program. I get mine for free.

I have been on Evenity for a year and have DEXA scan scores from before and after.
Current Lumbar Spine is -1.3 Prior Lumbar Spine was -2.0
Current Femoral Neck is -2.2 Prior Femoral Neck was -2.7
Current Total Hip is -2.1 Prior Total Hip is -2.1 (unchanged)

Even though the prior femoral neck score was a -2.7 and not all that bad from the scores I have read on these postings, a year ago my thigh bone broke just above the knee while walking.

The new scores move me back into osteopenia. Now the goal is to maintain the bone density I have gained. With agreement from my endocrinologist I am going on Evista. I am not able to tolerate bisphosphonates and Prolia is also not an option for me. In addition to Evista, supplements for bone health and exercises continue. I don't ever want to break another bone.

Thank you so much @lbmorgan44 for posting these results! I really appreciate knowing that Evenity does work!!! I also have enjoyed reading all your previous posts. I'm new to this site and have been catching up with all the posts since 2020. My rheumatologist initially prescribed Evenity (which is not covered by my health insurer) and then Tymlos, and I'm currently researching these and other osteoporosis medications while awaiting a second opinion (next May). I'm a 60yo woman in the severe osteoporosis category with high risk for fracture but have never broken a bone (knock on wood!!!). All the comments have been helpful, some very helpful, like yours, with actual Dexa scores to show the effects of the medication. I hope you are continuing to post comments on your progress with maintenance meds and will continue to post the next Dexa scan numbers.

BTW, regarding those scores, here is a quote from the Web site bonehealthandosteoporosis.org regarding the scores: "It is important to recognize that you may be diagnosed with osteoporosis when the T-score is better than -2.5, as when you have already had a broken bone or FRAX shows that your risk is high."
