Anyone taken Evenity (romosozumab) for Osteoporosis?

Neither doctor specified me going off Evenity.

Neither doctor had informed me that I had to go off of the Evenity. I have had a root canal years ago along with a crown. This crown broke off so now they have to remove what is under the gum when they first did the root canal. From my understanding that area can get infected if I don't remove it. It may get infected after they remove it. I had tried calling the Amegen regarding the Evenity but never could contact anyone. I had left a message for them to return my call but I could never get them. I am taking a huge chance that it will all work out.

Two things I have heard but cannot cite or confirm.

One, Evenity is less of an anti-resorptive than Prolia or biphosphonates.

Two Even with biphosphonates and Prolia, risk is relatively low and most cases of dental issues/jaw necrosis happen with the high doses given to cancer patients.

I have disability from fractures and would take the same risk. I had a bad afib episode after starting Tymlos but went back to it at a low dose. The pain and disability we have inspires risk-taking with meds as well as hope they will help 🙂

My Burst Compression Lumbar I Fracture has become such an issue, I just want to be able to get surgery so that I can be done with my back issue. Thank goodness for grocery pickup and delivery. I really can't go anywhere because I can't stand up over five minutes before I have to sit down. I have had it going on year 2 now. When the oral surgery became an issue, I had completely forgotten about that I had had a total hip replacement 12 years ago. Bacteria from the mouth can travel to my hip replacement so I have to get this broken off crown / root canal issue removed. My doctor and the oral surgeon know my condition so I am probably taking a risk that I can see why many would not.

I was just told by my dentist 3 days ago that the emerging wisdom tooth that I have is partially impacted and has to come out....yay.
I confirmed with the Osteoporosis clinic that I should definitely have the surgery done while I'm on Evenity because of the less anti-resorptive nature of it compared to most anything else.
So, I'll be getting that done in January a couple of weeks after my set of Evenity shots.

That’s interesting. I called Amgen, who makes Evenity, and was told dental surgery was not recommended while on Evenity.

I think it is possible that the company has to say that to avoid liability even if the chance is, say, 1%. I don't know the actual risk but it is less than with Prolia or biphosphonates, I have been told, and I have also been told by docs that the risk, even for the latter, is low and that most dental issues happen for cancer patients on higher doses. I am only citing what docs have told me and cannot verify.

We do education workshops with seniors that have osteoporosis and have had fractures and didn’t know they had them and never we’re told about treatment options. I may be able to provide some assistance.
