Chronic Constipation and Miralax (or Restoralax in Canada) Side Effect
Does anyone have intolerable side effects from Miralax? E.g. severe bloating and cramping. (The opposite of its advertising). Even one dose. So many people seem to be able to use this laxative on a long term basis problem-free. Interested to hear from those with miralax issues. I do have IBS.

🖐 Me!
It seems to work the opposite of what it is suppose to for me. I get no relief from constipation even if I am brave and try a second dose. I get SEVERE cramping… double over cramping. I do much better with Milk of Magnesia.
We are each unique.. what works for one does not work for others. I tried explaining that to an NP several times.. just because it works for her does not mean it will work for me. She must have made a note not to mention it again.. last time she did not mention it (in regard to clean out for a colonoscopy). 😀

@fourof5zs Restoralax (Miralax) actually works well its just the side effects. Milk of Magnesia is worse for me. Also, I have an arrythmia so excessive amounts of magnesium long term isnt a good idea for me. Thank you for sharing. I wish my colon was not so "unique":)

I understand. Just cramping speeds my heart… it doesn't have to be a med. I try to eat enough fiber and use softener when needed. By time I learn what to do to keep my body going… detour 🚧 ‼️… change again! Life would be boring without change.. right. 😀 I try to find some humor in it all. .. sometimes it is very hard to do.
I have found Miralax and Metamucil to be not helpful for constipation. I eat a lot of prunes, drink prune juice and eat all brand when I get constipated. I hope this helps.
Taking a probiotic and magnesium supplements was a lifesaver for me.
Which prebiotic and magnesium supplements (mg, how many, etc? ) do you take? Thanks
Yes how magnesium do you r take and what prebiotic
I take two 250 mg. NatureMade magnesium citrate in the evening (also helps with sleep) and one RenewLife Womens Care probiotic in the evening. You may want to start with only 250 mgs. magnesium and see what happens. Too much can cause diarrhea. You can get both in stores, I just order on Amazon. Any good probiotic will do.
I gave up Miralax when I started eating 6 prunes a day for my bone health. I eat two 3x a day. I don't know if they are helping bones but I no longer suffer from painful constipation.
I’m going to try this! Thank you.
