Yes. I had my first round of 12 ECT in a psychiatric hospital in the mid-1980s. It was not helpful. As I continued in Suicidal treatment-resistant depression, I was sent for Outpatient ECT in Nashville in 1990. It was a 90-minute trip one way and I had to be there at 7 AM. My Mother drove me to treatments and back home afterward. I was at the end of the road with no other option. I had 2 treatments a week for two months and then they spaced them further apart. I had to stop at 31 additional treatments in 1994 after I wrapped my car around a utility pole and broke my femur and right hand. Quite impossible to make the trip in that condition. In retrospect, they did help me “not care” so much. I began eating again and did recover from very severe Anorexia. They blunted my feelings. It was the closest thing up to that point to help me. However, it does not compare to the Miracle I found in taking 3 doses of Ketamine per week at home with a Tripsitter.clinic via Telemedicine. I highly recommend Ketamine treatment. It has saved my life at 60 years of age.
51 yr old woman I did the original course of ECT I felt better. Dr wanted to maintenance treatments I ended up doing 54 ECT treatment.
It wasn’t just short term memory loss, it was along term memory loss. Daily my husband say you remember and I have to look at him confused and say I don’t remember it’s hard on my marriage he has to do all the driving because I get lost easily, he has to do the bills and monitor appointments. a Some days I can completely for get the whole day . I can wake up on Monday than before I know it is Saturday . Life is harder after ECT physically my my limbs shake o have jerking movements o never had any of this. I had a great memory my hands were study I was paramedic for over 25 years, with all the side effects I had to the job I loved.
Please ask you Dr about long term effects, and do research before you do it. The depression

And I still have them.
