Has anyone experienced severe muscle aches/pain and fatigue while being on prednisone for two consecutive prescriptions?

I had brittle fingernails while on prednisone for both of my occurrences of PMR but didn't think anything about it at the time. A few years later I started using a collagen supplement and was surprised how much it helped with my fingernails. I started using it after doing some research for my wife who was having problems with her fingernails that kept breaking.

I have dizziness every day which starts about an hour after I take prednisone for PMR. It makes me feel unfocused and slightly affects my balance, which really does affect my daily living. I also am afraid others will assume I am under the influence of mind altering drugs, or am impaired. I was diagnosed with PMR 3 months ago, and have been tapering from 40mg to my current level of 10 mg.

Welcome @dizzybill, I saw this information under precautions on the prednisone side effects that mentions what you are experiencing.

"Talk to your doctor right away if you have more than one of these symptoms while you are using this medicine: blurred vision, dizziness or fainting, a fast, irregular, or pounding heartbeat, increased thirst or urination, irritability, or unusual tiredness or weakness."

Have you discussed the dizziness after taking prednisone with your doctor?

My rheumatologist has done a ton of tests on the way toward her PMR diagnosis, and we discussed dizziness. I was on a higher dose of prednisone last year for pneumonia, and the dizziness did stop when I tapered to about 5 mg. It’s just the with PMR, I may, unfortunately, be on this for a while.

Hello all,

I'm new here and looking for some guidance. My child was on this medication for 2 months and during that time he suffered horrible hand tremors. He has been off of it going on 3 months now and is having hand issues. NO more tremors but he keeps pressing his hands and rubbing them constantly. Drs are puzzled as to why he has this and wanted to see if anyone else had this issue. If so, did it ever go away? What helped? Any help would be appreciateated

Hello @dm06, Welcome to Connect. It's good to hear your child is no longer having the hand tremors after stopping the prednisone. I know that it must be hard for your child not knowing what is going on. I have not heard of hand tremors as a side effect of prednisone but hopefully other members will be able to share their experience. Hand rubbing can also be a sign of stress.

"When you are stressed, there will be more rubbing of the hands together (self-massaging or “pacifying”) which will increase in frequency and force commensurate with the stress. When things are really stressful, you will rub your hands together with fingers stretched out and interlaced (Teepee Hands)."

May I ask how is your child feels about what is happening? Are you able to share what condition the doctors were treating when they prescribed prednisone?

My kiddo is special needs with limited language. He cannot express what he feels in his hands, which makes it that more challenging. He was on Prednisolone to reduce inflammation in his brain in hopes of a “reset”. . He has epilepsy.

@dm06 I'm wondering if you might find some of the discussions in the Epilepsy & Seizures group helpful. Here's a link to the list of discussions in the group - https://connect.mayoclinic.org/group/epilepsy-2bb359/

I did see one older discussion in the group above that might provide some suggestions. I don't think the member that started the discussion is still active but a few of the other members may still be following the discussion.
