Posted by bosco17 @bosco17, Nov 12, 2022

Had Umbilical mesh surgery about 8-9 years ago. Having alot of pain and discomfort at mesh site. Anybody else experience these problems and how are you dealing with it?

Hi @bosco17 😊
I am so sorry to hear about your hernia mesh pain. I do not have any experience with hernia mesh surgery, but I have seen comments in the transplant group about hernia surgery so I am hopeful they will jump in soon! Did you discuss your new pain with your doctor? Did they mention treatment options? Is it worse when you make certain movements?

Ive been told that there is nothing they could do for me as the mesh becomes part of your skin and its major surgery to get it out ,so all they offered me was nerve blockers to stop the pain . If I would have known this could happen I would have went a different route. Got hernias all over my stomach and over my liver. Its a horror show!!!!!!!

Hi @bosco17
Are you saying that you now have new hernias on your stomach in addition to the mesh repair 8 or 9 years ago? Are these new hernias caused by a new surgery or something else? Is it possible that the pain is not coming from the mesh repair and is actually a new hernia causing pain?

Good morning @bosco17 😊
If your pain may be coming from a combination of your previous 8 - 9 year old hernia mesh surgery PLUS a couple new hernias showing up on your stomach, did your doctor suggest maybe wearing a support garment of some kind or any other non-surgical solution? I am wondering if a light support garment may lessen the pain and give you a more confident feel? Did your doctor have any suggestions?

I already wear a support 24/7 but it doesnt stop the pain

@bosco17 I am very sorry to hear that. I am hopeful that someone with some painful hernia experience will jump in with some good advice! 😊

Hi @bosco17 😊
I am happy to hear from you but I am so sorry to hear that you are experiencing pain from your hernia mesh surgery. When did you have your liver transplant surgery and when did you have your hernia surgery? Is it a recent repair?
