Trigeminal Neuralgia & Covid-19 shots

Posted by dandl48 Dave @dandl48, Mar 5, 2021

My wife suffers from Trigeminal Neuralgia and is concerned that having it would stop her from getting the Covid shot since she has read that with the Pizer shot people with Neurological disorders are advised not to get the injection. Thoughts?

Thanks for your reply. I'm not alone. I won't have another booster.

Hello,
After I had the first Pfizer booster in Dec 2021, by Jan 2022 they discovered that I had Pachymeningitis. By March of 2022, they discovered that I had a severe bilateral Subdural Hematoma. I had paralysis on my right side, from my shoulder down to my foot, cognitive issues, which I still have some of. Blinding headaches etc etc. I can finally walk without a walker now. The subdural hematoma is almost gone. I’m still recovering from both. After the 2nd Pfizer booster on June 1st. 2022, I ended up in the hospital with non-stop palpitations, high fever, vomiting and diarrhea, and trembling.
Than in July I started getting water retention in my ankles, and lower legs. They did a right cardio Cath in Sept 2022 and discovered that I the pressures in my heart were high, and fluid. Now I’m on a water pill, to get the excess water out of my body. Also since I had the hematoma, Pachymeningitis, and the boosters, I rapidly gained 25 pounds. Which will now be a struggle to get off of. I am starting IVIG treatments due to the Sjogren’s Syndrome that I now have. Ugh 😩 I’m exhausted

Could you tell me how long after the Pfizer booster in June did you experience a reaction? I got the last Pfizer booster in April and about a month later started having twitching in left hand. This was intermittent for a couple of months and then I started having muscle spasms in different parts of my body. Now my right thumb twitches from time to time. I know my symptoms are not as serious as yours but the common thread is the booster. I have tried to identify other possible causes but no success so far. Sorry you're having to deal with this.

Hi,
I started feeling bad the night of the booster. But by the morning I was in the hospital. I felt better a few days later…but then in July I started having other symptoms. I had high pressures in my heart and fluid retention. I’m still suffering from it.
I hope you feel better soon 🙏🏻

Hi Everyone, I got my 4th Moderna shot 11/4/22. On Saturday morning 11/5, I started having pain that radiated from the back of my head to my jaw on the left side. It waned during the day, came back for awhile in the evening and then seemed to dissipate a bit. I haven’t previously been diagnosed with TN but I’ve spent the past 1 1/2 years btwn dentist, eye doc, ENT and chiropractor due to mild to more severe consistent pressure through my left side jaw, sinuses, ear. Never awful just also never seems to go away. I went to the chiropractor that Monday assuming something was going on in my neck, the adjustment provided some mild relief. On Wednesday at 1:03 I woke up with such sharp pain radiating through my jaw, up to my forehead, around my ear it was unsleepable. On Thursday I was able to get in to see my primary who said my symptoms were typical TN. She’s trying to get an MRI approved to see if they can see an impingement. I did tell her about my Covid booster (Moderna) she didn’t think there was a correlation. Here’s the thing though - my lymph nodes always sweep as a response to the shot under my arm, pretty badly actually. This time under my arm was moderate but it seemed under my jaw and back behind my ear was also swollen. I’m wondering if this could have been the trigger for what appears to be a full blown TN attack, something I’ve never experienced before? The ncbi is reporting 3 cases of vaccine TN response. I believe they were all with the Pfizer vaccine though. I’m the meantime Advil every 4 hours, heat, soft room temperature foods seems to keep the pain at moderate🙁

I also went through a years-long process before seeing a neurologist at Mayo and now I’m on an anti seizure drug. I did have some events after getting my Moderna shot but I didn’t see a connection and it might have/haven’t been the cause of my excruciating pain. I will be interested in following this possible connection. Thanks for bringing this up and I hope you get long-term prevention for your pain.

Thank you. I was considering it. My primary would like me to see a specialist. Idk how long I can manage the pain without some relief. Over the counter really does nothing.

I have the same symptoms. My neurologist discovered that I had patchy meningitis and a Subdural Hematoma. Both of those issues started after my first Pfizer booster shot. It’s good that you’re getting some scans done. They discovered the Pachymeningitis via an MRI of my head/brain, with and without contrast. The Subdural Hematoma was discovered with a CT Scan of my head/brain. With all of that said, it doesn’t mean that you have what I do. TMJ can cause the same pain you described.
I wish you well.

Thank You so much for your kind words 🌺
I just started IVIG treatments yesterday. It’s to help put my Sjögren’s syndrome in remission.
Have a lovely day, and feel better 😊
