Carpal tunnel like symptoms post COVID

I woke October 31 2021 unable to use both of my hands due to extreme swelling and was diagnosed with carpal tunnel. Never had any symptoms of carpal tunnel! I’ve been to so many specialists even tested for MS due to the neuropathy throughout my entire body. Everything tests fine! I’m struggling daily with joint pain, fatigue, shortness of breath, numbness, tingling, and been out of work since November 9th of last year. I sure hope we both heal from this! Recently I wake every night due to my hands falling asleep. Most days my wrists are so weak I can barely hold my phone. Nerve test and ultrasound revealed I have “slight” carpal tunnel in my right hand. This has been and is so scary! I sure appreciate your sharing your story!

You are not alone! I’m so grateful for you sharing your story! I literally thought I was dying for months! Or had a auto immune disease. Everything has tested okay and no explanation for the constant pain, numbness, tingling, fatigue, and neuropathy throughout my entire body. I’ve even had numbness in my face. I have been to numerous specialists, tested for carpal tunnel, spinal issues, MS, and everything checks out fine.

Currently my hands go to sleep every night and I wake due to them being numb. I am seeing another neurologist Wednesday and hope I can get some better answers instead of “we think you should get better”

I am grateful for your sharing your story. I am now convinced that this is from the vaccine and I’m not sick with cancer, auto immune disease or something else. However this is so new and no Dr seems to have solid answers on how long we will have to feel like this or if we will ever get better. I feel that is almost a worse diagnosis!

Hello, I too have many symptoms similar to yours. Wrists, elbows, knees, fingers, and neuropathy throughout my entire body. The neuropathy was so bad in my legs I was tested for MS, carpal tunnel, spinal issues, and everything checks out fine. No explanation other than “the vaccination could be causing it” and “you should get better” the scariest thing is no Dr really knows why or how long we will be dealing with this terrible pain! I haven’t been able to work since I woke October 30 2021 with severe swelling in both hand and forearms that I was diagnosed with carpal tunnel at the ER and later told I didn’t have carpal tunnel. Tested for MS and that came back negative. Tested for Lupus, rheumatologist arthritis and both came back negative. I have been so terrified of my future and if I’ll ever be able to take care of myself again!

We need answers not excuses!

I got Covid in August 2022, and had flu like symptoms. In addition, both hands were stiff and numb. This went away after about 10 days.

Now, two months later, I started experiencing spasms in both hands. My fingers are clenching involuntarily throughout the day and my left grip is so weak I cannot type well.

I am a bit worried about stroke or autoimmune problems and thinking of going in to my doctor next week. Interesting to read here so many similar stories! Thanks..

OMG so at the beginning of Summer, I ended up getting Covid for the second time. A little while after recovery, I started having severe symptoms of Carpal Tunnel, I couldn't use my hands, or hold anything. This was extremly odd, as I had never had carpal tunnel symptoms or issues prior to this. After a few months of visiting my doctor and being told that it was arthritis, she sent me to a sports specialist to run some test. After the first visit I was set for an appointment to get an Electromyography (EMG), a form of electrodiagnostic testing that is used to study nerve and muscle function. Sure enough, I was found to have Severe Carpal Tunnel in my non dominate hand and mild going to Severe in the Right. I had to have DOUBLE Bilateral Carpal Tunnel Surgery . I made jokes that Covid caused the Carpel Tunnel. Then, I found an article posted on the government medical site:

I believe very strongly now that Covid caused my Carpal Tunnel issues.

Wow! Thank you for sharing! I just had my 3rd carpal tunnel nerve test and I show I have “mild” carpal tunnel in my right hand and prior to being vaccinated I never had any issues.

I am still going to Dr after Dr trying to figure this out. I no longer have carpal tunnel in my left hand, however my left hand hurts constantly! No reason for the pain in my left hand as well! I have been struggling with constant numbness and tingling in my left hand and right, but no tests show why!

I just had a nerve biopsy done in my left leg to test for peripheral neuropathy and hoping I get some better answers!

I strongly believe Covid caused your carpal tunnel syndrome! I’m saddened to know you had surgery for this! The Drs were strongly suggesting carpal tunnel surgery in my case, however I chose steroid shots vs surgery and then the neuropathy started in my legs, face, and entire body. I couldn’t even walk at one point due to the severity of the neuropathy in my legs.

Your case and my case should absolutely be reported, so we are part of the statistics and others are aware of the many more people experiencing “carpal tunnel LIKE syndrome” with no prior issues!
