Covid Recovery: How can I manage GI issues?

Posted by sieb369 @sieb369, Jan 3, 2022

It has been 5 weeks since my COVID symptoms began. I am well past the isolation date. I had nausea and diarrhea during COVID along with the usual symptoms of cough, fatigue, rapid heartbeat and sinus issues. I have felt like I was over this, but I began having GI pain in the last week. I feel as if my intestines are sore on the inside. I guess it is inflammation. Has anyone else had this and is there anything I can do to help it? Probiotics maybe?

Sorry to hear your issues. Me Probiotics before I eat seem to help majority of the time. If I start getting nausea I take another probiotic. Still haven’t figured out how to regulate between consumption and diarrhea. And it’s been over 2 months. Severe stomach pain seems to interact with the constipation . Miralax fiber don’t seem to help . Even my foods I have diarrhea from doesn’t always work. Then when I finally do get a bm 4 or 5 days later I may have the diarrhea and feel decent the next few days . I also take an Acid reducer helps with heartburn symptoms that i really shouldn’t have since my hiatal hurnia surgery in 2004 .

I’ve had Covid twice in four months. Most noticeable is reflux. I suspected SIBO and happened to get treated for a UTI with cipro. I doubled my probiotic and added a prebiotic fiber supplement and take a couple tablespoons of apple cider vinegar daily. It’s really helped. I still occasionally have a little reflux but it’s getting better and not as bad when I get it.

Have you checked for food allergies, sensitivities? GOOD resource autoimmune AIP group on Facebook: the diet they advocate helps reduce inflammation. Helped me eliminate 50 years of heartburn. The Fb anti-Miralax group has excellent suggestions for alleviating constipation. Also helped me. Wish you relief and haling.

Greetings, I had a breakthrough case of covid five months ago, all gastrointestinal symptoms. The symptoms still are recurring every few days. No gastrointestinal remedies seem to help: probiotics, prebiotics, Curing Pills, prevacid, all no help. Anyone having any success with gastro symptoms? Thank you!

Same, but mine have been going on for 2 years. Dr thought it was Appendix, removed May 2020. No relief. Removed Gal Bladder Jan 2021. No relief.

The only relief I can find it a strain of marijuana that keeps the nausea at bay.

It is so weird. It is like sometimes I am hungry, but my body is revolted by the thought of food. I have pains in my upper left abdomen. If I do not have 4 to 8 bowels movements per day, it is none for 4 to 5 days.

I AM MISERABLE

You might research Dr. Marcus Ettinger, Orange, CA, who takes on patients without answers to horrible gut problems. I am sorry for your suffering you hope you find healing soon.

I have had two bouts of long COVID in three years and my GI issues just started last month. They were extremely bad - cramping after eating, severe bloating and lots of diarrhea. I have had good luck with the rmdy brand of a combo of prebiotic and probiotic, anti-bloating and digestive enzymes. You take it with your biggest meal of the day each day. If I forget to take it (brain fog!) the GI issues quickly set in. I hope this helps.

I sure have. I am on probiotics, carafate, protinic and a special anti inflammatory diet. All help but , it has been a month and I am still battling it. Let me know if you find out any information on this awful problem.

Had intense heart burn and other symptoms of inflammation during covid. My Dr. prescribed Diphenhydramine (Benadryl) and Famotidine (Pepcid). Felt they were just suppressing symptoms for longest time but now after 6 weeks feel some progress being made.

I was prescribed Pepcid and Zyrtec and this has settled down things considerably as well.

I've had severe GI issues from long Covid for a year now. It's much better now, but only got better recently. I hate to tell you this, but meds did very little to help! Helped just enough to keep me out of the ER. This is a horrible disease! BUT it did finally get a lot better. I'm not 100% back to normal but getting there. Yeah, it took a whole year. So hang in there!!
