Anyone had a problem with scar tissue post liver transplant?

Posted by ltek128 @ltek128, Sep 9, 2022

Hi , I would like to ask if anyone has had a problem with scar tissue post liver transplant? I had a liver transplant 6/3/22 at Mt. Sinai in NYC. Following surgery I had quite a bit of ascites draining from the incision then developed a surgical site incision and developed a seroma. The seroma was drained and now the incision has healed very unsightly with pulling on the right hand side. Surgeon has referred me to see a plastic surgeon for a scar revision which I’m seeing next week.
My hepatologist told me no surgery for a year! Anyone have similar experiences?
Thanks

I have 30 months of liver transplantation, everything was fine until 6 months ago when they let me know that my liver started cirrhosis again, probably due to portal hypertension, I felt somewhat depressed but today I am still fighting and following my doctor's directions . All the descriptions of symptoms post transplant seem to be the same, what I do advise is to be patient, follow the doctor's directions and keep your mind very busy with other activities.

Welcome, I was on the same med as you for my portal hypertension pre LT. Right now I am doing great. How did the Drs. know that your liver was getting cirrhosis again! I did not realize that could happen again. My labs have been normal thus far. The only meds I take now is 2 immunosuppressant’s.
I hope everything goes well w/u I know that was a little upsetting for u to hear. Stay positive!!

Overtime it will fade. I’m 15 years out from liver transplant. The scar is huge and has a few pits in it. But I love it! It tells a part of my life story. Something that I had to fight and overcome. And now, I live ! You’ll get used to it and it tells your story too. Enjoy your life!!

@wonton, Welcome to Connect.
I have seen that statement before, and it is a good way to think of our scars! Thanks for sharing a positive note.

Please, Wonton, will you tell us how you came upon that saying? Are you a transplant recipient? Which organ did you receive? How are you doing? How long ago?
