I am trying to decide on celexa or lexapro. I did take celexa last night and anxiety seems worse this morning, it may be me causing it to due to worrying so much. Anyone input with these two medications would be greatly appreciated. Thank you
@steppy0313 Different medications work differently for people. That is to say, what works for me, may not work for you.
I take 10 mg Celexa each night. It is my thought that it would be difficult to judge your response to a new medication after one dose, as a blood level needs to build up in your system. Unless the reaction is an allergic one!

Thank you for responding and the info. I took a dose of celxa and honestly felt awful the next day. I have really bad anxiety and not knowing what medication will make me feel causes anxiety worse. I just want to feel good again and like myself. Been thru a lot as I know a lot of people have and are. Stephanie

@steppy0313 Talk to your prescribing doctor and see what their response may be.
I can understand the anxiety of new medications. Deep breathing, meditation, calming activities may all assist you. Have you tried any of these to help with your ongoing anxiety?

@flow65 It seems our bodies tend to "get comfortable" with some medications over time, and we find they are not as effective as they once were. It's frustrating, isn't it? We work hard to get the right combination.
Personally, I have been on 10 mg Celexa, and that is enough for me. When I feel my anxiety and depression are getting the best of me, I turn to physical exercise, fresh air, doing what makes me happy. I also journal a lot, which helps to get that stuff "out of my mind". Helping myself find what works has been a challenge, to be sure.
Good for you for looking in to the medications, and understanding what are not a good combination. How will you approach this with your doctor?

Ginger, I’m sorry I posted another message under depression and anxiety about Xanax withdrawal. We did ask the dr about the options. Of course, not to increase Xanax, and not adding Buspar. He gave us 2 options. Either up the celexa to 60mg or be uncomfortable tapering off of Xanax. It’s so difficult to be going thru this withdrawal. I’m hoping you have some comments. Thank you.

@flow65 You have done your research, gotten the opinion of your pharmacist, all good things. This is where you become your own advocate. Looking at your personal health, weighing the options of possible heart issues, and how you can approach this tapering off of Xanax. My thoughts run to going very slow on tapering off any medication, taking up to 2 months to taper down, or more. I have done that a couple of times myself, weaning myself off Celexa. Perhaps you could supplement with CBD to help you? Increase your exercise? While your psychiatrist may have given you his thoughts and recommendations, you have the final say-so.

Ginger, thank you. Being my own advocate is difficult. I have trouble in decision making. As for heart issues I have high blood pressure and it’s controlled by medication. I take pepcid. Plus the Xanax, celexa and hydroxyzine for anxiety depression. I feel like I’m in a whirlwind. My therapist thought CBD wouldn’t be good. Sometime ago I tried CBD gummies. I tried a small piece. Didn’t like the feeling or taste. My husband tries helping me. My grown daughter tries helping me. She says I have to meet her halfway in helping myself. I never knew it was going to get this bad. I mentioned before I have trouble doing everyday things. I do thank you for your support. I don’t know who else to turn to. Flo

Here is a discussion from drugs.com about the differences between Celexa and Lexapro. Please read it carefully, as additional health issues are addressed.

I have not tried these techniques but this is something I will try. Thank you so much for being so kind and giving recommendations.
