Lung nodule with Pleural Tethering

Posted by edsch @edsch, Sep 20, 2022

Has anyone heard of this? I have been researching it and have yet to find anything definitive on my own.

Thanks,
Ed

Hi @edsch, it sounds like you've read something from an imaging or pathology report and you haven't had a chance to discuss it with your doctor yet. All I can provide are some definitions of the terms. For example,
- The pleura includes two thin layers of tissue that protect and cushion the lungs.
- A tethered lung is a lung that following drainage of the pleural space does not fully re-expand.
- A lung (pulmonary) nodule is an abnormal growth that forms in a lung.

Was this in a report that you got? What was being investigated?

Hello Colleen,

Thank you for your response. I have discussed it with my PCP, but they were even a little uncertain about the wording. This was found on a CT Scan that I had gotten taken as a cancer follow up from a malignancy I had 5 years ago. I will discuss it with my oncologist on Monday, but I was hoping someone here could enlighten me a bit.

Thanks,
Ed

My oncologist is sending me for a PET Scan this coming week. Once I get the results I will share them here. Thank you for your support this week.

Hello Colleen,

Well, the lung nodule needs a follow-up CT in three months. However, it looks like my cancer has returned, unless it is a new primary. Have to get a biopsy to be certain. I hope it is something a little less scary than my last bout. Anywho, thank you for your support during all of this. I really appreciate it.

Ed, can you explain? The lung nodule is being monitored. However, the PET scan showed something else that indicates that the cancer may have returned, is that correct? To confirm or rule cancer recurrence, you are getting a biopsy. Where did they see a suspicious lesion? When do you get the biopsy?

Hello Colleen,

I have more clarification about this now. My urologist/oncologist is sending me to a medical oncologist for more systemic care. He wants to make sure I get the best care possible. He has really been an amazing doctor for me and I trust his judgment.

That's good news, Ed. When do you meet with the oncologist?

This coming Wednesday I will see the Medical Oncologist. I wound up getting shingles, likely due to a weakened immune system from the cancer. Although there is an outside chance that the shingles caused some of the problem in the lymph node, so, fingers crossed.
