Anyone have experience with the SoClean Machine?
Hello Everyone,
Many of us who use a CPAP, BiPAP, or other breathing devices have maybe been curious about a SoClean machine that has been advertised on TV quite a bit. I'm not sure but I would imagine that it could also be used for a Trilogy machine or any device which has the same size hoses if their equipped with a water reservoir. We purchased one out of pocket because our insurance did not cover it. It has a certain smell to the hoses after cleaning that many people say is hard to get used to. In the beginning we would disconnect the SoClean and let our BiPAP run for an hour or so to help remove any smell.
Some people say it has a clean smell to it while others say it takes some getting used to but eventually they do get used to it. Knowing that their equipment is free of bacteria gives a sense of comfort.
It works by a small hose coming off the adapter and being placed into the water reservoir oxygenating the water. No drops or chemicals in the water.
The last 2 times Lilbit has been hospitalized we have used our own BiPAP machine in the hospital because Lilbit prefers her own mask. We also brought the SoClean machine to the hospital and the Drs, nurses, and respiratory therapist were all curious how it worked. One therapist asked if we thought it actually cleaned everything. I replied, I don't know we just have to rely on the FDA information. Has anyone else been interested in the SoClean machine?

Hello @brumtail and welcome to Mayo Clinic Connect. I am sorry to learn of the loss of your beautiful singing voice. Losing such a talent must be very difficult.
I found an existing discussion on the SoClean Machine, so you will notice that I have moved your post here: https://connect.mayoclinic.org/discussion/soclean-machine/
I did this so you may more easily connect with other members such as @kspowell @kid2thdr and @ess77 who may be able to share some more with you.
What are you using now since stopping the SoClean?
"DirecOzone and UV light cleaning products are not currently approved cleaning methods for sleep apnea devices or masks and should not be used." This directly from the Phillips Recall page....... nuf said.
Hello there. I just found out I need a cpap and I live in Canada. I was recently in hospital for lung issues and told by the respiratory therapists (one of whom owns a cpap store) they are bad.
The So Clean has a bad reputation and most cpap stores here stopped selling them. So something was very wrong. I hope you are ok. I know this can be devastating.
Way back when my first husband had a cpap he cleaned it by hand. But his machine then was out of the dark ages. I'd have to learn how correctly because now with the latest machine, parts cannot get wet. And it has an air filter on the side that must be changed, not cleaned. I'm trialing some so I see how they feel and when I find the winner I'll need to learn to clean it.
Good luck to you!
The SoClean got a reputation of changing the insulation on a popular CPAP to result lung cancer. Phillips tested its Dream CPAP and found it was not true. During all this wait of 2 years I lost enough weight that I do very well with only a nose strip. I have packed my SoClean and 2 CPAPs in the basement. I have improved from COPD such that I always register in the 90 % oxygenation.
I recently noticed a commercial for a more stable nose pillow for the CPAP and a commercial for INSPIRE, a system comprised of corrective surgery plus a small handheld device placed near you during sleep. I have used a CPAP since their invention’s when they were extremely noisy and I am delighted to get away from it. Good luck with your quest.
Just use a small dose of hyrodgen peroxide food grade 3% each time you fill your tank, it'll keep you tank clean and may even help get rid of some infections from the lungs. I've found that it's really worked for me!
Has anyone had these symptoms anyone be cured of gotten better after they stopped using the so clean is there something that can help or am I just out of luck.
Haven't had any symptoms and have been using SoClean 2 and now SoClean 3 with a fresh air cycle after cleaning for well over 3 years.
I understand so clean has a big lawsuit against them. I still don't know whats wrong with my voice or breathing. But would still like to know if there is anything that can be done.
