Help! Anyone with Post COVID get infected again?
Hello! Newbie here. Here’s a little backstory:
COVID April 2020
Moderna vaccine Jan-March 2021
COVID May 17, 2022
Other neuro history: concussion July 2020; balance issues and numbness / tingling post pardum in 2008. Tested for MS but nothing showed up.
March of 2021 was the start of me slowly declining. My diagnosis came in the fall after many tests and consults, as a diagnosis of exclusion really, as we were all just starting to hear about long COVID. Cognitive issues, hearing issues, balance issues, ears ringing, sensitivity to heat where it felt like my ears would fill up and I’d get confused/ acted drunk with slurred speech. I got weaker and weaker. Couldn’t drive, I’d hit a few things it was crazy. I’d walk into my daughters volleyball game and get completely overloaded sensory wise and feel as if I was losing my balance. I’d get quiet snd confused. Numbness and tingling. Very very slow processing.
The recovery from COVID again has been scary. I was given the anti viral which helped me recover symptom wise acutely but the fatigue as bd brain fog has been awful. I’m back to work with shorter days and slowly trying to get it together. But now symptoms of last summer are slowly creeping back in. Headaches, ear/ jaw pain, I fell on Sunday. My legs just have out. My legs are burning and weak walking the halls at work. My breathing is a little better but I still have trouble.
I’m trying to get an appointment at a long COVID clinic. This is all so scary. Any tips/ advice?
Since last year I’m on some supplements to boost my immunity. 2 inhalers. 3 medications for heart/ blood pressure. And now I feel like I took one step forward snd 2 steps back.
Has anyone had long haulers twice?
Has anyone experienced it after the vaccine?

I have had covid since having long covid. When I told my primary dr., I got not response. When I went to my next appointment at the long-covid clinic at Shands, the dr told me that because I have long-covid, if I ever get a positive test again I need to have my primary dr give me an RX of Plaxlovid.
So what does the long-Covid clinic actually do?
Laura, my apologies for steering you back to the Post-COVID Care Clinic. I had assumed you were still in their care, but see that you were transitioned to your primary care physician after completing the PCCC program.
@artistandtwin, your post is so helpful, informative and hopeful. Thank you for all the details.
Laura, it's not too late to consult with your PCP and see if Paxlovid or another antiviral therapy or monoclonal therapy would be appropriate for you.
How are you feeling today?
@colleenyoung
It's rough. I've slept all day today. Everything hurts, but my breathing is ok.

Thank you; I’ll check it out.
I was responding to bvw’s post; it made me wonder.
I’m unable to get the vaccine because of a defective heart. So naturally I’ve been careful to wear a good quality mask before I leave my apartment and observe the procedures to stay safe. Guess what, I’ve had Covid 5 times, the 1st, 3rd and 5th were the worst. I’m a long hauler as you can imagine. I lost my taste from #3 and 6 days later, I lost my smell. That was back in March 2022. Then in July 2022, I caught the Covid Variant BA.5 as my 5th case. That thing was nasty, fast, easy to catch and vicious. In less than 2 days, I went deaf in my right ear after getting severe earaches in both ears. My taste, smell and deafness eased up but still active. Now I’m waiting to catch the flu, so I got a maximum dose of flu vaccine. In 2017, after having the flu vaccine also the pneumonia shot 2 months later, disaster struck. Not only did I get the flu, I also ended up with bronchitis and pneumonia. So my poor body was fighting all three bugs at the same time. To this day, you can see on X-rays the damage and scaring in the bottom of my left lung where the battle took place. So I’m always out of breath. The Covid seems to have run its course but the flu season is about to hit. Hope you are feeling well. @becky1024
I had covid on 8/22, tested negative on 8/28, tested positive again on 9/5, vaccinated and boosted (2). Symptoms on the first positive was mild (fever, coughing and nasally) took Paxlovid for the five days then got it again. Second time kicked my butt, stayed in bed for 2 days but if I hadn't been vaccinated would have been worse, also I have COPD. Back to normal
Laura, I am so sorry that you have been reinfected. This is what we all are fearful of. Be well, Greg
Hello Colleen, Thank you for shepherding this reinfection thread of the Group. This is something long covid people live in fear of. My symptoms are much improved, but I cannot imagine re-igniting them with another infection. My wife is ready to throttle me for being so careful about exposure. I did get the bivalent booster, which does not mean you cannot be infected. Worth noting that some articles are saying that the bivalent booster will help prevent infection, not sure how. Thanks again, Greg
