Shingles from COVID
Hi everyone,
I have been off connect a long time. But I did finally catch COVID in June even with two vaccines and a booster.
But I developed shingles as I was getting over COVID. Then I was diagnosed with post hermetic neuralgia. That is very painful because it's nerve pain.
I did read that one's immune system gets compromised from COVID and that leaves people open to shingles. I wonder if others had that happen.

Hi @ihatediabetes! So good to hear from you again, although I'm sorry your return marks a new health issue. You're right that COVID does compromise your immune system and likely contributed to your getting shingles. @jrandolph7b experienced a suspected case of internal shingles post COVID too.

A heads up about the virus that causes Singles.
About 10 years ago a researcher was testing tissue samples from patients who had died from Vasculitis. He was looking at which virus was present and what titer or quantity of virus was present.
Admittedly his sample quantity was to small to be statistically significant - usually 30 is the minimum. But what he found was surprising never the less.
About 75% of the samples contained high titers of the virus that caused Singles (chickenpox).
Admittedly, virus infections can cause many different consequences - my 3 year old’s sniffles caused Pneumonia in me and triggered 40 years of Celiac Disease related autoimmune symptoms. And, I lost my wife with a history of small Singles outbreaks, to the deadliest Vasculitis of all.
So be aware that the Singles virus can cause the very dangerous consequences of Vasculitis or restrictions in blood flows to vital organs. And at the very least, damage important organ function if not be out right fatal!

Thanks for the info. I was in the ER at Rochester and I got a CT scan with contrast. They did say my organs were ok. But then I have this neuralgia which is just constant pain. So I am trying Gabapentin. I never had something like this before.
