I have a similar condition, but attribute the "extreme fatigue" to Gabapentin, which I take every three hours to alleviate the nerve pain in my left lower leg.

Good evening @arcticmark, it is nice to meet you on Connect. This is the way I learn.....by reading others' descriptions of their experiences. I note that you feel Gabapentin brings on "extreme fatigue" for you. How much do you take every three hours? I have been using some level of Gabapentin since I was first diagnosed with SFN (small fiber neuropathy) 9 years ago. It may be just me but I don't think that Gabapentin creates fatigue at that level. I actually think the fatigue comes from trying to have a reasonable quality of life while living with constant pain.

Last week, I made an attempt to taper off some of my Gabapentin and replace it with another strain or an increased dosage of medical cannabis. Didn't work. I was just dragging. Even my MFR therapist noticed that I had more fascia tightness as well as pain.

So.....be careful. Everyone is different. And I am dealing with SFN which means that my pain can be and often is all over my body.

Do you use any other medications? How about compression for that leg?

May you be free of suffering and the causes of suffering.
Chris

Hi

I’m new to this group and new to neuropathy. Mine is a result of intercostal nerve damage as a result of a mistake during surgery a year ago. The entire nerves systems are connected and one can lead to others. I’ve been prescribed for gabapentine for different issues. It’s on my allergy list. My response was awful. Mentally I was a nervous wreck and physically had tremors. I was recently recommended to take gabapenatal. 😳 A related drug. I had a really bad feeling about it. My physical therapist said her friend was on Lyrica, the brand name. She described herself as walking around like a zombie. I’m elevating my feet at night with pillows and use lidocaine topically. Works for me. I wish you luck with Rx. Listen to your body. See if you feel good about the drug. Blessings!

Welcome @gshfmb, Sorry to hear you had a bad reaction to gabapentin but happy you found an alternative that helps. If you haven't thought about looking for alternative or complementary treatments, you might want to check out the Foundation for Peripheral Neuropathy website - https://www.foundationforpn.org/living-well/complementary-therapies/. You might also find the following discussion helpful:

Have you looked into any alternative or complementary treatments to see if they might be helpful?

@user_ch98d0b5c - Well, I fit that condition...idiopathic peripheral neuropathy. Unlike John, mine comes with a ton of pain. The possible cause may be previous injuries like falling off horses and down mountains. I am happy to offer what does and does not work for me to provide some relief. Just let me know and I can send you a private message or post for all.

Hi Chris, I have a bulb neuroma and scar tissue from two prior surgeries on the toes of my right foot. I have been told by a podiatrist that he can't do anything else for me and suggested I see a pain management doctor. Do you or any of your followers have any suggestions on how to treat this problem of pain in my toes? Thanks

I’ve read everything regarding R-alpha lipoic acid. Texted my Primary Doctor and he replied in the affirmative. Walgreens has the best price on Best Brand $19.99 for 600mg for 60 days supply. That’s $10 a month. 😊. We’re worth it.

The real problem resulting from the surgeon’s mistakes is pseudo hernia/flank bulge pain. There’s no Group for that to my knowledge. Perhaps there are too few of us. Neuropathy is a secondary reaction to the intercostal nerve damage. Alas! 🤷‍♀️

My neuropathy started after spine surgery #6 for scoliosis. Has gradually increased since 2006. Result BK Amp 5yrs ago. I currently have constant burn below right knee. Has increased more since COVID vaccines and booster ×1. I take Gabapentin and medical Marijuana. It takes several hours to get the pain to the point where I can sleep! HELP!!

Both Tens and Sanexas machines- no help with tingling and numbness in the feet. Also tried acupuncture. No result either.
