New growth facial hair during menopause
Has anyone experienced growing facial hair during menopause? I have noticed this happening with me.
I have mentioned this to my doctor they tested for gluten intolerance, which I have. My doctor said that’s probably why my hair has been falling out and the growth of facial hair on my face. I was rx’d hormones, however with the hormones I feel like it causes the foot neuropathy to hurt worse. So hard to put in a happy face when one is in chronic pain. Any thoughts out there?

@myladycatherine Well I can speak to hair loss on head and hair growth on face being post menopausal…not fun! Due to family history of breast cancer hormones not an option.
Hi there @marjou........just wondering if you have tried Vaniqa prescription ointment to prevent hair growth on your face? It has been a while since I have used it but my memory bell went off when I read your post.
May you have happiness and the causes of happiness.

@myladycatherine. I'm post-menopausal. During menopause and after I noticed a few hairs growing on my chin. Do you a lot of facial hair or is it a few hairs? In addition, my brows got thinner even though I never plucked or shaped them much prior to menopause. I had very bushy hair on my legs and that's also gone. I've asked my gynecologist about this and my nurse practitioner where I'm followed at Mayo Clinic and been told these are all due to hormonal changes in declining levels of estrogen. I'm not taking any hormonal prescription.
I'm with you on putting on the happy face when you're in pain. I've done the same and as if the pain isn't tiring enough pretending to the outside world you are happy when you are not is even more so. Are you seeing an endocrinologist? Do you need help in figuring out how to balance your hormones?
I am having some problem with facial hair almost all my adult life, because I am an intersex woman (DSD). Facial hair s always stimulated by increased testosterone levels. Once the follicles are stimulated, no amount of estrogen will stop them anymore. The proper way to reduce hair growth would not to increase estrogen, but to reduce testosterone, but as said, once the growth is stimulated, it will continue. I tried Vaniqa, and it worked well, it takes about 3 to 4 weeks of daily application to eliminate the hair growth, but if one stops, the hair will come back. Vaniqa is pretty expensive, and it got to expensive for me. I now use an epilator device, and that helps me to pull out the undesired hair. It is rather cheap, and woks well. I bought it through Amazon.
I have been postmenopausal for 17 years now. I did have an increase in facial hair on the upper lip and under chin. I've managed to keep it under control alternating tweezers and a razor. I could not do waxing (not a fan of pain). The razor gives you a smooth finish and lasts three weeks for me. I agree with Lindes, the hairs keep coming back. Depending on the volume of facial hair growth, you might want to consider laser treatments. My daughter is an aesthetician and she said it works great. I would do it but it's not in my budget.
Laser works only on light colored skin and dark hair. I had a bit of it done, but once my dark hair was gone, it was the end of it.
Hi
The women of my family all seem to have excess hair on both face and body. It seems only to pass down from women to women in my family. In my case , my grandmother, my mom, my sisters, and the only niece I have by a sister. My brothers girls do not have the problem. Neither do my uncles’ girls.
Most of us are very fare. In addition to facial hair, we all have thinning scalp hair, and very fine transparent body hair. Eyebrows all fine.
One sister has had electrolysis for 50 yrs and now gets treated only once per month. I tried that but I could not tolerate the pain. I also tried laser and although I questioned that it might work, the company I went to said it would. After 18 months they finally agreed with me. They returned 90% of my money. They decided to keep the 10% for administration costs. ( the commission for office mgr who was driving a new Porsche SUV.!?
No po I am on dupixant for a skin problem. The hair on my face is growing fast furious and thick. It’s dreadful. Has anyone else reacted to dupixant this way?
