Esophageal Cancer: Anyone else?
I’ve completed 15 chemo treatments and 1/25 proton radiation treatments for my stage 2 esophageal cancer. I’m jst looking for helpful advice from anyone going thru this past or present. I’m a bit frightened wondering how this treatment will affect me.

I did five rounds of chemo and 25 radiation treatments. I came through very well with the only side affect being I couldn’t sleep at night following the chemo treatment due to the steroids they gave me before chemo.
How much weight do you lose from this kind of surgery?
Same here, except I have surgery next week.
My father is 68 and just last month had stomach pains we rushed him to hospital and they found blood clots in his lungs then saw the tumor at the bottom of his esophagus, they did the endo and said it was not a stage 4 they didn’t see any of the cancer through the linings , we then had the oncologist last week and she said it was stage 4 a and we are now waiting for pet scan on Friday , my father is NOT eating he says he is not hungry has lost so much weight , he’s not walking like they said he should , his stomach is just full he says . We can’t
Believe this is happening so fast but other then the acid reflux and weight loss he doesn’t have any other Signs yet but he’s not well . Please anyone can share their experience we are so scared to know what this pet scan will
Show this happened so fast
Thinking of you Linda as you prepare for surgery.
Hi @dnrese99, you've come to right place to get support and tips from other patients and caregivers who have been there. This is happening so fast for you and your family. I bet you have plenty of questions. Ask away.
Let me introduce you to a few other members, like @puprluvr @patricia1952 @pellaw @socalkelly @advocatepaul @survivorsuz @linda2007, who either had esophageal cancer or are supporting a loved one with cancer.
To help you get to know the other members and ask them questions, I moved your message to this discussion.

@dnrese99, I know you're frightened about what the PET scan will tell you. But of course you need to know what is going on so your dad can get the right treatments. Nutrition as you can see from the previous posts is often a concern with esophageal cancer. As others have mentioned, you may wish to discuss the feeding tube option. Has the care team talked about a feeding tube with your dad?
Your story mirrors mine almost exactly!!!! Except the radiation, I had a terrible burn on my back which the Oncologist treated with Silver Salve. I am doing well except the acid reflux.
Be well,
Lori
@linda2007 how did your surgery go? My husband had his esophagectomy on 7/29 and they couldn’t get clear margins after 3 resections. He still has microscopic cancer cells in his esophagus. They moved his G-Tube to a J-tube and he’s just now introducing clear liquids. He’s recovering fine but it’s a slow process for sure!
I’m hoping his next round of treatments are a little less impactful. Last round was pretty hard on him.
My surgery is scheduled for September 13th. I finished my treatments (chemo and radiation). Had to wait 8 weeks for a PET scan and the results came back showing no cancer was detected. I have already done pre-ops. Now just waiting for surgery. Wishing your husband a speedy recovery.
My mum was diagnosed with stage 1 cancer of the throat yesterday. She is 87yrd and I am scared of her life if she is to go for the cancer treatment. Is there a possible way that she will make it through?
