What's your review of Cochlear Osia 2 System?
I am getting the implants in a week or so. Would like to hear from people who are using these bone conduction devices.

I had the magnet strength changed once already. That reduced some of the aching but this is different...I think it either must be some kind of infection around the implant or maybe some reaction to the piezo-electric transducer. The swelling and soreness only appears to be around the transducer side of the implant and not the magnet.
I had my Osia implant surgery a little over a year ago. I will first say that I love my Osia 2 system. It has made a great impact on my social life. To address your challenge about swelling and soreness, the first several months after surgery my head was numb. It took several months for that to begin to subside. Occasionally when I sleep on that side of my head, it will feel a little tender, but not severe and no swelling. Since I am very thin, I do not have a lot of padding over the implant site, so mine sticks put quite a bit. All of that said, if I were experiencing any severe pain and swelling at the site, I would not hesitate to visit my primary care physician or ER, insurance or no. It is possible you have some type of infection or rejection of the device. Surely the physician who performed the surgery or another ENT if you have relocated, would allow an office visit even if you have to pay out of pocket. I would say it is a cause for concern.
Mam. I am 43 year old female.
I just got my Osia implant surgery 6 weeks ago and TODAY my Audiologist turned my Osia implant ON, and I could NOT believe it, I am COMPLETELY DEAF in my right ear but I actually CAN HEAR out of my right ear now and it is absolutely AMAZINGLY mam’ , I LOVE IT!
The Lord has truly blessed me!!!!!!
It was ALL worth it!!!!!
I say, YESSSS MAM, it’s DEFINITELY WORTH IT!!!!!!!!!
I can’t believe everything I was missing before , it literally sounded like there was a “STOPPER” plugged up in my right ear!!! I am sooo TRULY GREATFUL!!!!
I sure PRAY 🙏🏼 that you decide on getting yourself one as well.
God bless you. 🙏🏼
I’m also completely deaf on one side only. And I was told with the implant all the sound from the deaf side will be caught with the transmitter mic and basically spit out on the good. So I will be able to hear what I usually missed before BUT it will be still not on the deaf side.
That’s not your case? How come?
Hello all. I have SSD on the left side and have had it for years, but my situation is a little unique. Since moving to SE Georgia my body for some reason is reacting to something down here and has pretty much tried to destroy any sense of hearing I had. I have gone from very short periods of almost complete deafness to very extended periods of complete deafness. I have done the allergy testing thing twice and no one has an answer as to why I am experiencing nasal and hearing problems. The nasal side has since been addressed with surgery and has greatly helped. The hearing side was addressed when I had the Osia 2 implant installed early June 2022 . Surgery went well but it took a while for the swelling to completely subside and the feeling in the surrounding scalp to return. The Osia 2 processor was installed and activated five weeks later. Impressions, following the surgery my left ear hearing returned albeit not at levels previously experienced and was active during the Osia 2 set up period. So, for me the experience is going to seem a little different than many of you have. There was a magnitude in difference in hearing on the side where the Osia 2 was applied but the sound was very different to natural hearing. In time the sound does change as our brain accommodates the signals better and is able to better decode everything. Was it worth it, absolutely. Am I thrilled, not quite sure just yet. My concerns at the present time are I suppose really picky if I’m to be honest. I am an engineer and a music lover so again I find myself in perhaps not a completely unique position, but very close. When I listen to my music I need the have the volume on my Osia 2 fairly high to maintain an equalized stereo balance from each speaker. The downside is that if I don’t remember to lower the volume anything there after is super loud, examples; opening a door sounds like a rifle being cocked right next to my ear (loud), as I walk through hallways the sounds on the left side are very loud. Not sure if there is something Cochlea can do to monitor the amplitude of the signal to mitigate some of this. The same happens when out with groups of people, in order to hear the whole group the volume has to be set fairly high which puts the device on the edge of being annoying for any sound close to the device. I have tried a number of different settings and have programmed these on my mobile phone app, but you can’t get your phone out fast enough. Due to the continuing COVID situation we have not been in groups too often so I am likely still on the learning curve with regards to settings. My wife and I walk a lot with our dog and I would always have my wife walk to my left in a safe spot since we walk toward on coming vehicles. The down side to that was very often I was not able to hear what she was saying, this has been resolved by having the Osia 2, so we can now have conversations while we walk.
I don’t understand your question. Can you rephrase it please?
And thank you 🙏🏼 🙂
I’ve been told I won’t be regaining hearing back on the deaf (left) side with the osia. But the microphone on the left side will catch all sound that my ear doesn’t hear and spit it out on the good (right) side.
Your case sounds like you can hear on both sides again.
Hello, I just got my surgery for the Osia on 8/16 and device activation will be on 9/21. I’ll admit I’m slightly nervous, but so excited. It was nice to discover this post, it eased my worries.
My son is 17 years old has has been wearing the original BAHA since he was 4. He still has the single-sided transcutaneous abutment on his right side and recently implanted and activated the Osia. So far he likes it. He was very excited to try the Aqua + system to finally get to hear while enjoying water activities. He put the device in water mode, but it still “squealed” when he was submerged. Is there any way to rectify this?
Blessings,
Doug
I believe it is AMAZING, I can’t hear out of my right ear but when I got my implant I was very CONFUSED, as I don’t hear out of my right ear, I hear where the implant is up on my head, they drilled into my Heckler and I hear from the microphone up on my head and it is so awesome it is very very unique!
I thought that I would be hearing from my ear but I don’t I hear from up top my head and it is just so amazing how technology has come this far!!!
And CONGRATULATIONS 🎈🎊
