Had COVID infection: Am I still contagious to others?
Extreme weakness, aches and over sleeping started about 3 weeks AFTER I had a mild case of Covid. I now test negative. Am I contagious to others?

I developed symptoms 11 days ago; tested positive 10 days ago. My fever broke after 6 days, but today I tested still positive for Covid on a home test, a very bright red positive line. Am I still contagious and able to transmit Covid to others until I test negative? 11 days seems long to still be positive. I received no treatments and received the first 2 Moderna vaccinations a year ago. Thank you!
Here is the current CDC guidance, which was confirmed by them again just before the 4th of July.

Recommendation for Ending Isolation
For people who are mildly ill with a laboratory-confirmed SARS-CoV-2 infection and not moderately or severely immunocompromised:
Isolation can be discontinued at least 5 days after symptom onset (day 1 through day 5 after symptom onset, with day 0 being the first day of symptoms), and after resolution of fever for at least 24 hours (without the use of fever-reducing medications) and with improvement of other symptoms.
Loss of taste and smell may persist for weeks or months after recovery and need not delay the end of isolation.
These people should continue to properly wear a well-fitted mask around others at home and in public for 5 additional days (day 6 through day 10 after symptom onset) after the 5-day isolation period.
People who cannot properly wear a mask, including children < 2 years of age and people of any age with certain disabilities, should isolate for 10 days. In certain high-risk congregate settings that have high risk of secondary transmission and where it is not feasible to cohort people, CDC recommends a 10-day isolation period for residents.
If you are around immune compromised people, out of an abundance of caution you may want to wear a mask just to be sure you don't spread anything.

Hi @dorma, if you have tested negative and it has been 3 weeks since you had COVID, then you are likely no longer contagious and no longer need to isolate.
See more details from the CDC isolation guidelines here: https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/your-health/quarantine-isolation.html
The weakness, aches, and fatigue you are experiencing may be a sign of possible long Covid. You might find these tips from Dr. Van, Mayo’s long Covid specialist, to be helpful.

My husband got Covid first next few days I got it.Not really a fever but very achy with a slight cough with phem sore throat for both of us but for me a headache and itchy ears that lasted two days. But now one of my ears feels blocked and dull with ringing very annoying make me feel a little off.Has anyone had this happen with Covid? We have had Covid for 7days we feel much better other wise.My husband is needing to get to work how long do you have to wait to retest? We are both in over 60.Thankyou
Ear tickle for me goes way deep like behind the jaw. Nothing relieves it but it is sporadic. Also, I’ve had tinnitus several years from being a music performer, but Covid certainly increased it! I have some diminished hearing as well now.
I had Covid 2yrs+ ago. Still wondering if all this will go away in time. No one knows
Hi @carnet - you'll see that I moved your question to this open discussion about COVID isolation and testing:
-Still contagious w/COVID: https://connect.mayoclinic.org/discussion/still-contagious-w-covid/
You can see above the great advice that @sueinmn shared from the CDC about isolating.
For your ears, you may want to read through some of the responses on this conversation that @welchllb started:
-Long COVID and Ringing in the ears: https://connect.mayoclinic.org/discussion/ringing-in-the-ears/
Have you been able to find any remedies that relieve the ringing temporarily, or is it constant?
Hi I have tried different things it is constant my ear feels dull. I am still having some phem which is clear.
I am day 11 still positive. I have RA
And am on infusions of anti-TNF inhibitor Remicade which suppresses my immune system. . I have learned that in people with suppressed immune systems, it can be a long delay before the virus is shed. I do not have fever but do still have sinus congestion amd intermittent but no longer productive cough.
My PCP says I am not contagious. CDC guidance aays I can go about my life. Im just not sure. Im gonna call my rheumy tomorrow.
Has anyone else had difficulty getting a negative test result?
