Gabapentin and Cymbalta

Posted by jeanniem @jeanniem, Mar 15, 2021

I am taking 300mg of Gabapentin twice a day and my neurologist seems to feel pretty strongly that I add 30mg of Cymbalta. Does anyone else take this combo? I really hate adding new medications!

The drowsiness will most likely go away or at least decrease. The balance issues will probably improve too as time goes by.
300 mg is a safe dose at night but your doctor may no want you to take all once in the beginning for side effect reasons.
Good luck,
Jake

Gabapentin doesn’t make me sleepy but has some other bad side effects. I see my PCP on Thursday.

Any suggestions for pain that doesn’t go away?

Thank You. My no hurts all the time. The tingling, crawling, burning, numbness sensations never go away. I hurt all day and night.

I also have severe neuropathy pain, and Lyrica helps greatly. However, nothing seemed to work on the burning sensation—until I began topical CBD. Good balms are available, but must have strong CBD/oz. Personally, with doctor approval, make my own balm with very light concentration of essential oils that proved effective in medical test studies. Wishing you success.

Jake, I have started taking only one tablet of 300 mg at night instead of 2, wanting to cut back on so much medication. So far it has worked with my leg aches at night. I’m not trying to go off it as I have no side effects from it, just cutting back.

Walking every day in a warm therapy pool helps. Gabapenten May cause cataracts. I had to have lenses replaced one at a time years after I quit taking it. Never seemed to help. Walking frequently just a little doing chores or walking room to room helps. Nerves may grow back very slowly but over time adds up.

Hi
I take 900 mg of gabapentin
300 morning
300 evening
300 bedtime
It helps I guess but I have to increasing it & I don't like that.
I also take Cymbalta 60mg. & the dr. seems to think that is what is helping me the most.
This is a terrible condition & nothing helps.
Best of luck to you.

I’ve posted this before on other neuropathy sites, but thought I’d repost here. There is no medication to cure neuropathy, but there are numerous studies using supplements. I wanted a cure, not just pain relief. I read one study from the Cleveland Clinic that showed good results and have been following their recommendation with good results. They recommend taking 300 mg of CoQ10 and 20 mg of PQQ daily. The neuropathy in my hands is completely gone and my feet are much improved. The majority of the pain in my feet is gone, but I still have numbness in some places. I started this a year after chemo. The hands showed improvement quickly, the feet were slower. But the worst of the pain was gone in 3-4 months. Not an overnight cure, but my pain is gone. PQQ is not a common supplement, but I found it on Amazon. Good luck

I never heard of those supplements before.
I need to ask my dr. on any new thing I take bc I have a lot of other health issues besides Neuropathy, so you do have to be careful what you take.
Glad it is helping oyu. Everyone is different.
Best of luck

I take 300mg 3× a day gabapentin, 30mg 2× a day duloxetine. I take it at night for my fibromyalgia, its been 3 years haven't noticed a difference. I'm supposed to take more, maybe I should take in the morning, so I can feel the effects.? I just always took it at night because I was afraid of being sleepy

Welcome @dawngreg, Three years seems like a long time to be taking the same medications and not have it make a difference. There is another discussion you may want to join to learn what others have shared:
